{"id":461115,"date":"2021-02-02T14:16:47","date_gmt":"2021-02-02T21:16:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=461115"},"modified":"2021-02-02T14:16:47","modified_gmt":"2021-02-02T21:16:47","slug":"tokyo-olympics-officials-message-we-will-hold-the-games","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/tokyo-olympics-officials-message-we-will-hold-the-games\/","title":{"rendered":"Tokyo Olympics Official Message: \u2018We Will Hold the Games\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Officials for the 2021 Tokyo Olympics are maintaining that the Games will happen, despite what Japan&#8217;s Liberal Democratic Party believes.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo matter what situation would be with the coronavirus, we will hold the games,\u201d former prime minister and president of the Tokyo Olympics committee <strong>Yoshiro Mori<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/thomas-bach-tokyo-coronavirus-pandemic-japan-olympic-games-234f82cded9e2e3e3f7d5bcfbaba01e6?utm_source=Twitter&amp;utm_medium=AP_Sports&amp;utm_campaign=SocialFlow\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">told The Associated Press<\/a>. \u201cWe should pass on the discussion of whether we will hold the games or not, but instead discuss how we should hold it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mori has been positive on the games and been very vocal about it, backed by International Olympic Committee President <strong>Thomas Bach<\/strong> even as reports have continued to speculate that the Olympics might be canceled.<\/p>\n<p>The IOC has maintained the Tokyo Olympics will open on July 23 with 11,000 athletes and tens of thousands of judges, officials, media, broadcasters, sponsors and VIPs.
