The 18th-ranked Irish men beat West Virginia, 271-82. The women, also ranked 18th in the nation, scored a 244-127 victory.<\/p>\n<p>The distance set led the way in Notre Dame\u2019s final dual meet. Madeline LaPorte went first, clocking in at 9:57.31 to win the event in a Mylan Park pool record. <strong>Jack Hoagland<\/strong> followed by going 8:49.95 in the event, a personal-best time and the second-fastest in program history.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/kelly-straubs-diving-record-has-notre-dame-ahead-of-west-virginia\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Day 1 results<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Diver <strong>David Petrison<\/strong> added a program record in platform diving, scoring 346.80 in winning the event. It comes a day after <strong>Kelly Straub<\/strong> set the women\u2019s program record on platform.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was a great session of swimming &amp; diving for our group this morning,\u201d Notre Dame coach <strong>Mike Litzinger<\/strong> said. \u201cBoth Madeline LaPorte and Jack Hoagland led the way with Mylan Park Pool records in the 1000 Free, and David Petrison improved his Notre Dame record on the 10-meter.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Hoagland also won the 200 individual medley for Notre Dame in an NCAA B-cut time of 1:46.49. <strong>Alec DeLong<\/strong> won the 200 free, <strong>Sadler McKeen<\/strong> claimed the 100 back and <strong>Topher Stensby<\/strong> outdueled <strong>Ryen van<\/strong> <strong>Wyk<\/strong> to win the 50 free.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tyler Christianson<\/strong> won the men\u2019s 200 breaststroke in an NCAA B cut of 1:56.90, while runner-up <strong>JP Becker<\/strong> crept into the top 10 in program history in 1:58.13.<\/p>\n<p>Notre Dame\u2019s men swept both relays, with the squad of <strong>Brendan Santana, Josh Bottleberghe, Carson Wilburn<\/strong> and Stensby claiming the 200 medley and Wilburn, Stensby, DeLong and McKeen claiming the 400 free.<\/p>\n<p>The women got a boost with two diving wins Saturday, Straub nipping <strong>Annie Wiese<\/strong> for the win on the one-meter board and the two reversing places in the three-meter.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Sydney Whiting<\/strong> started Notre Dame with a win in the 200 free. <strong>Ellie Jew<\/strong> (200 IM), <strong>Megan Deuel<\/strong> (200 fly) and <strong>Elizabeth Fry<\/strong> (200 breast) added victories. The Irish swept both relays: <strong>Carly Quast, Coleen Gillilan, Cailey Grunhard<\/strong> and <strong>Rachel Wittmer<\/strong> in the 200 medley; Quast, Whiting, Grunhard and Wittmer in the 400 free.<\/p>\n<p>West Virginia picked up <a href=\"https:\/\/wvusports.com\/news\/2021\/1\/30\/mens-swimming-diving-west-virginia-closes-regular-season-on-senior-day.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">three event wins on the day<\/a>. <strong>Emily Haimes<\/strong> sprinted to victory in the 50 free in 23.40, edging Wittmer and Grunhard in a race where the top five finishers were separated by .12 seconds. <strong>Ally Vannetta<\/strong> won the 100 back, and <strong>Jordan Buechler<\/strong> was second in the 200 IM.<\/p>\n<p><strong>David Dixon<\/strong> won the men\u2019s 200 fly in 1:46.79.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe had a very strong day, and it was a great way to send off our seniors,\u201d West Virginia coach <strong>Vic Riggs<\/strong> said. \u201cAs a team, we competed very well. Once again, we had several lifetime best times, our relays were strong and, as a whole, we improved from our last meet.
