The Golden Bears are the defending national champions with their win in 2019 after not having a chance to defend the title last year in 2020.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/vmrw8k5h.tinifycdn.com\/results\/pdf\/2021-cal-vs-usc-day-2-day-2-ncaa-college-2021-01-30.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Results<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Junior\u00a0<strong>Reece Whitley<\/strong>, last year&#8217;s national top seed in the 200 breaststroke, won the 200 breast on Saturday with a 1:53.75 over teammate <strong>Hugo Gonzalez\u00a0<\/strong>(1:58.38). Whitley already had the top time in the country this season with a 1:48 last semester as he could challenge the national record of 1:47.12 by the time NCAAs come around.<\/p>\n<p>Whitley also swam the breaststroke leg on Cal&#8217;s winning medley relay with a 24.25, following\u00a0<strong>Daniel Carr\u00a0<\/strong>(21.70).\u00a0<strong>Ryan Hoffer\u00a0<\/strong>(20.03) and\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/calbears.com\/sports\/mens-swimming-and-diving\/roster\/bj-rn-seeliger\/16292\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Bj\u00f6rn Seeliger<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>(18.64) closed for a 1:24.62, which puts them seventh nationally thus far this season.<\/p>\n<p>Carr also won the 200 backstroke with a 1:43.23, which is off his 1:40 from last semester that puts him fourth nationally. He won ahead of USC&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Harry Homans\u00a0<\/strong>(1:44.91), who took the win in the 400 IM at 3:51.12. Seeliger also won the 50 free at 19.42 ahead of USC&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Nikola Miljenic<\/strong> (20.13), who won the 100 fly at 46.66.<\/p>\n<p>Senior transfer\u00a0<strong>Zach Yeadon\u00a0<\/strong>won the 500 at 4:22.21 in his first official meet with the Golden Bears after <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/acc-champion-zach-yeadon-to-transfer-to-2019-ncaa-champs-cal\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">transferring from the University of Notre Dame<\/a>.
