Through the first day, Cal leads 110-35 on the women&#8217;s side, with diving and the second-day results to be added to the totals.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/vmrw8k5h.tinifycdn.com\/results\/pdf\/2021-usc-vs-cal-day-1-ncaa-college-2021-01-29.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Women&#8217;s Results<\/strong><\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/vmrw8k5h.tinifycdn.com\/results\/pdf\/2021-usc-vs-cal-men-day-1-ncaa-college-2021-01-29.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Men&#8217;s Results<\/strong><\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Cal Press Release<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Bears began and ended the day with NCAA A qualifying relay results, with both finishes ranking as the third-fastest in the country so far this year. The foursome of <strong>Isabelle Stadden<\/strong>, <strong>Ema Rajic<\/strong>, <strong>Isabel Ivey<\/strong> and <strong>Robin Neumann<\/strong> completed the 400 medley relay in 3:29.22, while the team of <strong>Eloise Riley<\/strong>, Neumann, <strong>Emily Gantriis<\/strong> and Ivey closed out the 200 free relay in 1:27.78. The free relay set the Cal dual-meet record and lowered Spieker Aquatics Complex mark by nearly four seconds.<\/p>\n<p>Overall, the Bears won seven of the eight swimming events. However, in the one race they took second, Rajic broke her own school record in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 58.79. USC&#8217;s <strong>Kaitlyn Dobler<\/strong> won in a pool-record 58.31.<\/p>\n<p>In the 200 individual medley, Ivey took down <strong>Caitlyn Leverenz&#8217;s<\/strong> 9-year-old dual-meet record with a time of 1:55.54. Her time puts her seventh in the country this year. <strong>Sarah DiMeco<\/strong> also moved up to fourth all-time at Cal in the 1000 free with a winning time of 9:44.10 (#5 in the country).<\/p>\n<p>The Bears&#8217; other swimming victories came in the 100 back \u2013 <strong>Tea Laughlin<\/strong> (54.07), <strong>Rachel Klinker<\/strong> (1:55.85) and Neumann (100 free (48.34).<\/p>\n<p>In diving, <strong>Briana Thai<\/strong> captured the 1-meter competition with a score of 299.25, and she took fourth on platform at 239.18.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Bj\u00f6rn Seeliger<\/strong>, <strong>Ryan Hoffer<\/strong>, <strong>Nate Biondi<\/strong> and <strong>Bryce Mefford<\/strong> capped the day by cruising to a pool-record-setting 1:16.63 finish in the 200 free relay. The NCAA A qualifying relay result stands as the third-fastest time in the country so far this season. Cal opened the meet with another relay victory, as <strong>Destin Lasco<\/strong>, <strong>Reece Whitley<\/strong>, Hoffer and Seeliger clocked the ninth-fastest 400 medley relay time (3:08.90) in the country this season.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In between the relays, the Bears won five of six individual events. Cal swept the 1000 free with <strong>Zach Yeadon<\/strong> (8:59.80) leading the way and <strong>Sean Grieshop<\/strong> (9:10.08) and <strong>Tyler Kopp<\/strong> (9:18.89) taking second and third. A battle between two Bears in the 200 IM ended with Destin Lasco (1:45.91) beating Hugo Gonz\u00e1lez (1:46.14).<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Other individual wins came from Mefford in the 100 back (47.17), Whitley in the 100 breast (53.26) and <strong>Trenton Julian<\/strong> in the 200 fly (1:43.31).<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In the diving events down the road at Legends Aquatic Center, sophomore transfer <strong>Tyler Wesson<\/strong> was the lone Bear to compete. He placed second in the 3-meter (255.38) and took third on the platform (185.40).<\/p>\n<p><strong>USC Press Release<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Bears and Trojans competed in eight swimming races and two diving competitions Friday and will return to the pool Saturday for nine more races to complete the two-day meet. Action continues tomorrow at 9 AM with the women&#8217;s competition, followed by the men&#8217;s meet at noon.<\/p>\n<p>Freshman <strong>Kaitlyn Dobler<\/strong>, who touched in 58.31 to win the 100y breast, also set a Spieker Aquatics Complex pool record, and secured the first Trojan NCAA A-cut of the season. Dobler&#8217;s time is the third fastest in the country this season. <strong>Isabelle Odgers<\/strong> was third in 1:00.48 and <strong>Maggie Aroesty<\/strong> was fifth in 1:03.45.<\/p>\n<p>Trojan newcomer <strong>Hallie Kinsey<\/strong> was third in the 200y fly, finishing in 1:58.04. <strong>Makenna Turner<\/strong> was fifth in 1:59.39.<\/p>\n<p>Senior <strong>Nikola Miljenic<\/strong> won the only event of the day for Troy, taking the 100y free in 43.05. <strong>Dom Margarino<\/strong> was third in 45.02, <strong>Max Saunders<\/strong> fourth in 45.09, <strong>Jan Collazo Torres<\/strong> fifth in 45.22 and <strong>Trent Martinez<\/strong> sixth in 45.49.<\/p>\n<p>Sophomore <strong>Harry Homans<\/strong> was second in the 200y fly (1:44.09) and third in the 200y IM (1:49.22.) Junior <strong>Alexei Sancov<\/strong> touched third in the 200y fly in 1:44.68.<\/p>\n<p>The USC diving program opened their 2021 season against Cal Friday (Jan. 29), winning three out of four total events.<\/p>\n<p>Sophomore <strong>George Korovin<\/strong> won both the men&#8217;s platform (383.63) and 3-meter (382.50) competition. Freshman <strong>Tatsuya Machida<\/strong> was second on platform with 255.60 and third on 3-meter with 247.50.<\/p>\n<p>On the women&#8217;s side, <strong>Nike Agunbiade<\/strong> led a Trojan sweep on platform with 291.90. Freshman <strong>Farah Volpintesta<\/strong> was second with 244.35 and <strong>Savannah Stocker<\/strong> third with 239.70. <strong>Alyson Ward<\/strong> was sixth with 191.63.
