NEW COMMIT:\u00a0<\/strong>U.S. Open qualifier\u00a0Hana Shimizu-Bowers\u00a0<\/strong>of New York, N.Y. has announced her verbal commitment to Northwestern University beginning in the fall of 2022.<\/p>\n

She will join\u00a0Mackenzie Lanning<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>and Riley Huddleston<\/strong><\/a> as a member of the Wildcats\u2019 Class of 2026.<\/p>\n

Regarding her commitment, she said:<\/p>\n

“I\u2019m so excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my athletic and academic career at Northwestern University! I want to thank everyone who made this possible by supporting me along the way. I can\u2019t wait to be part of such an amazing team! Go Wildcats!! ??”<\/strong><\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Shimizu-Bowers, who trains year-round with Badger Swim Club, posted four top-3 finishes at the 18&U Winter Championships last month after taking ninth in the 400m IM at the Richmond U.S. Open. Last winter, she was a six-time finalist at Metropolitan Seniors where her highest finish was a runner-up finish in the 400m IM.<\/p>\n

In Summer 2019, she won the 400m free at Metropolitan LCM Seniors before going on to take fifth in that event as well as 12th in the 400m IM at Junior Nationals.<\/p>\n
