She claimed the 200 individual medley, 100 backstroke and 200 backstroke, the latter in a 1-2 finish with <strong>Mara Newman.<\/strong> Bacon also led off the second-place 200 medley relay.<\/p>\n<p>The Badgers also got points via the distance contingent, with <strong>Emily Acker<\/strong> sweeping the 500 freestyle and 1,000 free. <strong>Lillie Hosack<\/strong> added wins in the 100 free and 200 free and was second in the 50 free ahead of teammate <strong>Alana Palmer.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Alex Reddington, Mikayla Seigal<\/strong> and <strong>Kaylyn Schoof<\/strong> grabbed the top three spots in the 100 butterfly in a major coup. Hosack, Schoof, Ecker and Palmer were second in the 400 free relay.<\/p>\n<p>On the men\u2019s side, Wisconsin turned to a pair of freshmen. <strong>Jacob Newmark<\/strong> won the 200 free and 200 back, the latter in a 1-2 with <strong>Drew Nixdorf,<\/strong> who was also second din the 200 fly. <strong>Andrew Benson<\/strong> won the 100 free and the 200 IM and was second in the 50 free.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Wes Jekel<\/strong> paired a victory in the 100 back, a spot ahead of teammate <strong>Eric Gessner,<\/strong> with finishing second to Gessner in the 100 fly and second to Benson in the 200 IM. <strong>Joshua Danhauser<\/strong> won the 500 free in a 1-2 with <strong>Jude Williams<\/strong> and finished second in the 1,000 free.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It was a long time coming for us to have the opportunity to race today and I&#8217;m really proud of the effort the Badgers put forth,\u201d head coach <strong>Yuri Suguiyama<\/strong> said. \u201cGood wins in all of our competitions today to kick start the era of the Soderholm Family Aquatic Center.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Emma Lezer<\/strong> set the tone <a href=\"https:\/\/gophersports.com\/news\/2021\/1\/23\/swimming-diving-gopher-women-take-down-purdue-to-highlight-season-opening-tri-dual.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">for the Minnesota women<\/a>. She teamed with <strong>Emily Cook, Emma Linscott<\/strong> and <strong>Olivia Bloomer<\/strong> to win the 200 medley relay, then clocked in at NCAA B cuts to claim the 100 breast and 200 breast.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Indy Jongman<\/strong> sprinted to victory in the 50 free and was second in the 100 free. Cook was second in the 100 back and third in the 200 back. <strong>Sarah Bacon<\/strong> tallied the top score in both diving events. Jongman led off the 400 free relay, joining with <strong>Jordan McGinty, Pyper Doo<\/strong> and Bloomer to win in 3:21.22.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Max McHugh<\/strong> swept the men\u2019s breaststroke events for the Golden Gophers. <strong>Sawyer Grimes<\/strong> won the 1,000 free and took second in the 200 back, and <strong>Kaiser Neverman<\/strong> won the 200 fly in a B cut time of 1:46.59.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;After almost 11 months without racing in the pool or competing on the boards, it was simply great to see our student-athletes have the opportunity to be a team today and do what they love,&#8221; Minnesota head coach <strong>Kelly Kremer<\/strong> said. &#8220;We are all over the map right now in terms of level of preparedness, but at least we have a starting point and a meet under our belt. Back to work on Monday!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Purdue\u2019s men\u2019s team started fast with a victory in the 200 medley relay, the squad of <strong>Michael Juengel, Trent Pellini, Ryan Hrosik<\/strong> and <strong>Nikola Acin<\/strong> clocking in at 1:26.00. Acin led off the 400 free relay, teaming with Pellini, Hrosik and <strong>Nick Sherman<\/strong> to win in 2:55.32.<\/p>\n<p>Acin won the 50 free in 19.53 seconds and took second in the 100 free in 43.56, both NCAA B cuts. Hrosik was third in the 100 free. Pellini was second in the 100 breast and third in the 100 fly. <strong>Coleman Modglin<\/strong> took second in the 200 breast and third in the 100 breast. Sherman and <strong>Charlie King<\/strong> went 2-3 in the 200 free.<\/p>\n<p>Purdue also dominated diving on the men\u2019s side, with <strong>Brandon Loschiavo<\/strong> winning the three-meter and finishing runner-up to teammate <strong>Greg Duncan<\/strong> on one-meter.<\/p>\n<p>On the women\u2019s side, <strong>Kate Beavon<\/strong> was second in the 500 and 1,000 free for Purdue. <strong>Riley Kishman<\/strong> and <strong>Masy Folcik<\/strong> went second and third, respectively, in the 100 breast. <strong>Emily Bretscher<\/strong> was second in both diving events.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Wisconsin marked its first meet at the Soderholm Family Aquatic Center by sweeping a tri-meet with Purdue and Minnesota on both the men\u2019s and women\u2019s side.
