{"id":460377,"date":"2021-01-23T15:40:14","date_gmt":"2021-01-23T22:40:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=460377"},"modified":"2021-01-23T15:40:14","modified_gmt":"2021-01-23T22:40:14","slug":"shaine-casas-cracks-45-seconds-in-100-fly-as-texas-am-sweeps-lsu","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/shaine-casas-cracks-45-seconds-in-100-fly-as-texas-am-sweeps-lsu\/","title":{"rendered":"Shaine Casas Cracks 45 Seconds in 100 Fly as Texas A&#038;M Sweeps LSU"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Shaine Casas<\/strong> lowered his school record in the 100 butterfly Saturday, the leading individual highlight of Texas A&amp;M\u2019s sweep of LSU in an SEC dual meet.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/12thman.com\/news\/2021\/1\/23\/mens-swimming-and-diving-am-defeats-lsu-on-senior-day-176-122.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The men\u2019s team claimed<\/a> a 176-122 victory, while <a href=\"https:\/\/12thman.com\/news\/2021\/1\/23\/womens-swimming-and-diving-aggies-earn-senior-day-win-over-lsu-172-116.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">the women prevailed<\/a> by a 172-116 margin.<\/p>\n<p>Casas clocked in at 44.98 seconds to win the 100 fly, re-setting his program record and continuing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/sec-weekly-honors-texas-ams-shaine-casas-swimmer-of-the-week-for-fourth-time\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">his outstanding collegiate season<\/a>. Casas also won the 100 backstroke in 47.11 and led off the winning 200 medley (with <strong>Andres Puente, Jace Brown<\/strong> and <strong>Tanner Olson<\/strong>) and 200 free (with <strong>Clayton Bobo,<\/strong> Olson and <strong>Kraig Bray<\/strong>) relays for the No. 4 ranked Aggies.<\/p>\n<p>Olson and Puente swept the 100 and 200 breaststroke events, respectively. Brown won the 200 fly, <strong>Thomas Shomper<\/strong> claimed the 200 back and <strong>Kaloyan Bratanov<\/strong> showed his range by winning the 50 free and 200 individual medley.<\/p>\n<p>The 13th-ranked women\u2019s team followed the lead of <strong>Chloe Stepanek,<\/strong> who swept the 50, 100 and 200 free and anchored the victorious 400 medley relay with <strong>Grace Wey, Kylie Powers<\/strong> and <strong>Olivia Theall.<\/strong> Wey won the 100 back, Powers the 200 breast, and Theall led off the winning 200 free relay.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Camryn Toney<\/strong> (1,000 free), <strong>Jing Quah<\/strong> (200 fly), <strong>Sammy Schlicht<\/strong> (200 back), <strong>Taylor Pike<\/strong> (100 fly) and <strong>Caroline Theil<\/strong> (200 IM) added wins for the Texas A&amp;M. <strong>Aimee Wilson<\/strong> led a 1-2-3 finish in the three-meter diving event, with runner-up <strong>Charlye Campbell<\/strong> claiming the one-meter victory.<\/p>\n<p>On its senior day, Texas A&amp;M recognized <strong>Gus Karau, Kurtis Mathews, Sean Morey, Tanner Olson, Felipe Rizzo, Hudson Smith, Mark Theall, Charlye Campbell, Kara Eisenmann, Taylor Pike, Jing Wen Quah, Camryn Toney <\/strong>and<strong> Harper Walding, Haley Yelle<\/strong> for their careers as Aggies.<\/p>\n<p>The chase put on by the LSU men was led by its distance contingent. <strong>Brooks Curry<\/strong> won the 100 and 200 free. <strong>Mason Nyboer<\/strong> took first in the 1,000 free, then settled for second in the 500 behind <strong>Braydon Nyboer.
