Among the athletes slated for action at night are <strong>Regan Smith<\/strong>, <strong>Carson Foster<\/strong>, <strong>Kathleen<\/strong> <strong>Baker<\/strong> and <strong>Olivia Smoliga<\/strong>. Here is what unfolded during Sunday qualifying.<\/p>\n<h3>Women\u2019s 200 Individual Medley<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Madisyn Cox<\/strong> and <strong>Kathleen Baker<\/strong>, racing at the San Antonio site, secured the top two seeds in the 200 medley, with Cox grabbing the No. 1 slot in 2:13.96. Baker was just behind in 2:14.20, and both women figure to contend for Olympic berths later this summer. Behind a time of 2:16.46, <strong>Isabel Ivey<\/strong> qualified third-fastest.<\/p>\n<h3>Men\u2019s 200 Individual Medley<\/h3>\n<p>The Foster brothers \u2013 Jake and Carson \u2013 will be in the spotlight during the final in San Antonio after qualifying first and fourth, respectively, during prelims. <strong>Jake Foster<\/strong> was fastest during qualifying, on the strength of a 2:01.93 performance, while <strong>Carson Foster<\/strong> went 2:03.82. Taking the second and third spots were <strong>Kieran Smith<\/strong> (2:03.01) and Jay Litherland (2:03.04). <strong>Will Licon<\/strong> (2:04.09) and <strong>Andrew Seliskar<\/strong> (2:04.38) also advanced to the final.<\/p>\n<h3>Women\u2019s 200 Backstroke<\/h3>\n<p>The strength of this event will come from San Antonio, where <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/2021-tyr-pro-swim-series-regan-smith-tops-stacked-field-in-100-back-justin-ress-secures-upset\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Regan Smith<\/strong><\/a> will be chasing her fourth victory of the weekend. Smith (2:12.99) qualified third in the event in which she is the world-record holder, trailing only <strong>Phoebe Bacon<\/strong> (2:11.83) and <strong>Isabelle<\/strong> <strong>Stadden<\/strong> (2:12.14). <strong>Lisa Bratton<\/strong> (2:13.52) was behind Smith in fourth, while Kathleen Baker opted to scratch the event to focus on the 200 medley.<\/p>\n<h3>Men\u2019s 200 Backstroke<\/h3>\n<p>There were several scratches in the event, including an opt-out by Carson Foster. Taking the top seed was <strong>Will Grant<\/strong> in 2:01.24. A trio of big names followed Grant in San Antonio, with <strong>Austin Katz<\/strong> going 2:02.74 for the second seed and Olympic champion <strong>Ryan Murphy<\/strong> (2:03.05) and <strong>Shaine Casas<\/strong> (2:04.09) following. In Richmond, Nick Alexander covered his four laps in 2:03.53.<\/p>\n<h3>Women\u2019s 100 Freestyle<\/h3>\n<p>Coming off a victory in the 50 freestyle in which she dipped under the 25-second barrier, <strong>Catie DeLoof<\/strong> kept her momentum going by securing the top seed in the 100 free. DeLoof clocked 54.49 in Richmond and was followed by several 55-second efforts from San Antonio. <strong>Abbey Weitzeil<\/strong> (55.28) and Olivia Smoliga (55.32) were separated by less than a tenth, and <strong>Natalie Hinds<\/strong> touched the wall in 55.52.<\/p>\n<h3>Men\u2019s 100 Freestyle<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Justin Ress<\/strong> followed a strong showing in the 100 backstroke from Saturday night by nailing down the top seed in the 100 free with a mark of 49.49. Ress was followed in Richmond by <strong>Michael Chadwick<\/strong>, who went 49.80. <strong>Austin Surhoff<\/strong> (50.08) and <strong>Coleman<\/strong> <strong>Stewart<\/strong> (50.40) will also be factors at night.
