Franzman also swam on the winning 400 free relay.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Brendan Burns<\/strong> picked up wins in the 200 butterfly (B cut of 1:44.30) ahead of teammate <strong>Corey Gambardella,<\/strong> and the 100 fly (B cut of 47.28). Burns added a B cut in the 200 backstroke at 1:44.94 for third place. (Second in that race, in a B-cut of 1:44.71, was 100 back champ <strong>Jacob Steele<\/strong>, with a B cut of 47.38.)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tomer Frankel<\/strong> won the 200 free for Indiana to go with a relay win. <strong>Michael<\/strong> <strong>Brinegar<\/strong> and <strong>Mikey Calvillo<\/strong> went 1-2 in the 1,000 free, then switched places for the 500. Diver <strong>Andrew Capobianco<\/strong> swept the diving events, a 1-2 finish in the one-meter with teammate <strong>Mory Gould.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/mgoblue.com\/news\/2021\/1\/16\/swimming-and-diving-u-m-wins-three-of-four-in-season-opening-duals-with-indiana-northwestern.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Michigan\u2019s men<\/a> were led by <strong>Wyatt Davis<\/strong>, who won the 200 back in a B-cut time of 1:43.95 and swam on the victorious medley relay. He added a B cut in the 100 back for second place and silver in the 200 individual medley behind teammate <strong>Jared Daigle<\/strong>. <strong>Will Chan<\/strong> won the 100 breast in a B cut of 53.99 for the Wolverines, and <strong>AJ Bornstein<\/strong> won the 200 breast.<\/p>\n<p>On the women\u2019s side, Michigan\u2019s <strong>Daria Pyshnenko<\/strong> was a winner in all four of her swims. She took part in the 400 free relay and 200 medley relay, augmenting victories in 50 free (B cut of 22.67) and 100 free. <strong>Maggie MacNeil<\/strong>, who joined her on the relays, captured the 200 free in B-cut fashion (1:47.00). <strong>Olivia Carter<\/strong> bested the field in the 200 fly (B cut of 1:56.85), 100 fly (B cut of 53.66) and 200 IM.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Sierra Schmidt<\/strong> and <strong>Kaitlyn Sims<\/strong> were 1-2 in both distance events for Michigan, while<strong> Casey Chung<\/strong> and <strong>Mariella<\/strong> <strong>Venter<\/strong> traded 1-2 results in the 100 back and 200 back.<\/p>\n<p>Indiana\u2019s only women\u2019s swimming win was supplied by <strong>Noelle Peplowski,<\/strong> who led teammate <strong>Emily Weiss<\/strong> into the wall in the 200 breast, both in B cuts. Indiana won both diving events courtesy of <strong>Anne Fowler.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/nusports.com\/news\/2021\/1\/16\/mens-swimming-and-diving-cats-battled-big-ten-foes-in-2021-opener.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Northwestern\u2019s lone win<\/a> came via <strong>Sophie Angus,<\/strong> who claimed the women\u2019s 100 breast in a B cut of 1:00.68, outtouching Weiss (1:00.80) and Peplowski (1:00.99), also in B-cut times.
