{"id":459739,"date":"2021-01-16T15:14:44","date_gmt":"2021-01-16T22:14:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=459739"},"modified":"2021-01-16T15:14:44","modified_gmt":"2021-01-16T22:14:44","slug":"nc-state-sweeps-duke-both-squads-move-to-3-0","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/nc-state-sweeps-duke-both-squads-move-to-3-0\/","title":{"rendered":"NC State Sweeps Duke, Both Squads Move to 3-0"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>NC State\u2019s men\u2019s and women\u2019s swimming teams <a href=\"https:\/\/gopack.com\/news\/2021\/1\/16\/swimming-nc-state-remains-perfect-in-dual-meets-with-sweep-of-duke.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">swept a dual meet<\/a> with Duke Saturday, the sixth-ranked men winning 167-92, and the No. 4 women claiming a 163.5-93.5 decision over No. 16 Duke.<\/p>\n<p>Both teams remain undefeated <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/nc-state-wolfpack-led-by-strong-swims-from-katharine-berkoff-kylee-alons\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">on the season<\/a> with two meets remaining.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Kylee Alons<\/strong> led the way for the women with a pair of individual wins. The junior claimed the 200 freestyle in 1:47.76, then took control of the 200 back in 1:55.59. Both keyed 1-2-3 finishes by the Wolfpack.<\/p>\n<p>Alons also led off the capping 400 free relay with <strong>Katharine Berkoff<\/strong> (winner of the 100 freestyle), <strong>Sirena Rowe<\/strong> (champ in the 50 free) and <strong>Sophie Hansson.<\/strong> The latter three paired with 100 breaststroke winner <strong>Heather Maccausland<\/strong> to open up with a winning 200 medley relay.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Yara Hierath<\/strong> added wins in the 500 and 1,000 free for NC State. <strong>Julia Poole<\/strong> won the 200 individual medley, <strong>Emma Muzzy<\/strong> claimed the 100 backstroke and <strong>Andrea Podmanikova<\/strong> was first in the 200 breast.<\/p>\n<p>Duke\u2019s high-water mark in the women\u2019s meet was the 200 butterfly, won by freshman <strong>Catherine Purnell<\/strong> in 1:59.87, with teammate <strong>Cabell Whitlow<\/strong> second. <strong>Sarah Foley<\/strong> won the 100 breast, and Whitlow was quickest in the 100 fly.<\/p>\n<p>The distance contingent led the way for NC State&#8217;s men. It was a 1-2-3 sweep in the 1,000 free behind <strong>Eric Knowles\u2019<\/strong> winning time of 9:13.17, then the Wolfpack monopolized the top four spots in the 500 free, <strong>Noah Bowers<\/strong> leading the way.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Noah Henderson<\/strong> swept the two butterfly events, and <strong>Luke Miller<\/strong> won the 200 free and 200 IM.<\/p>\n<p>Duke started with a win in the medley relay, the squad of <strong>David Hallaron,<\/strong> <strong>Cole Reznick, Charlie Gingrich<\/strong> and <strong>John Day<\/strong> winning in 1:30.19. Reznick won the 200 breast, and Gingrich claimed the 50 free.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We swam incredibly well \u2014 what a way to send out the seniors,&#8221; Duke\u2019s associate head coach <strong>Doak Finch<\/strong> said <a href=\"https:\/\/goduke.com\/news\/2021\/1\/16\/duke-swimming-diving-falls-to-nc-state.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">in a release<\/a>. &#8220;We were a little short on personnel, but everyone that was here swimming fought until the end and showed what this team means. We had numerous great swims.
