{"id":459638,"date":"2021-01-15T15:15:18","date_gmt":"2021-01-15T22:15:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=459638"},"modified":"2021-01-15T15:15:18","modified_gmt":"2021-01-15T22:15:18","slug":"without-coach-arthur-albiero-due-to-covid-19-protocol-louisville-downs-missouri","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/without-coach-arthur-albiero-due-to-covid-19-protocol-louisville-downs-missouri\/","title":{"rendered":"Without Coach Arthur Albiero due to COVID-19 Protocol, Louisville Downs Missouri"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Competing without coach <strong>Arthur Albiero<\/strong> due to COVID-19 contract tracing protocols, the Louisville men\u2019s swimming team defeated Missouri, 199-101, Friday.<\/p>\n<p>The women\u2019s teams competed <a href=\"https:\/\/gocards.com\/news\/2021\/1\/15\/swimming-diving-women-compete-against-missouri-in-non-scoring-meet.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">in an unscored meet<\/a> at the Ralph Wright Natatorium.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It was definitely a different experience to watch the meet from my computer at home due to the quarantine,&#8221; Albiero said <a href=\"https:\/\/gocards.com\/news\/2021\/1\/15\/swimming-diving-louisville-mens-swimming-and-diving-tame-missouri-tigers-199-101.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">in a Louisville release<\/a>. &#8220;Major props to our coaching staff who got the team ready to compete today. There were plenty of highlights on both the women&#8217;s meet and the men&#8217;s meet and it was great to see a number of swimmers stepping up and performing well for the team in crucial moments.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Neither of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/albiero-father-son-bond-growing-through-good-times-and-bad\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Arthur\u2019s children<\/a>, freshman <strong>Gabi Albiero<\/strong> and senior <strong>Nick Albiero,<\/strong> competed in the meet, though their absences were not noted in the releases.<\/p>\n<p>The Cardinals bookended the men&#8217;s meet with 1-2 relay finishes. The squad of <strong>Mitchell Whyte, Evgenii Somov, Dalton Lowe<\/strong> and <strong>Haridi Sameh<\/strong> won the 200 medley relay in 1:25.07 to start. The meet ended with <strong>Michael Eastman,<\/strong> Sameh, <strong>Tanner Cummings<\/strong> and Somov clocking in at 2:53.92.<\/p>\n<p>Whyte dominated the 100 and 200 backstroke, Sameh was quickest in the 50 free in 19.88 and Lowe claimed the 100 butterfly.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Hayden Curley<\/strong> tallied big points by winning the 1,650 and 500 free. <strong>Colton Paulson<\/strong> won the 200 free in a 1-2 with Eastman, the winner of the 100 free with Sameh second. <strong>Daniel Pinto<\/strong> won both diving events for the Cardinals.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I am proud of the way the men raced and used today as a step in the process toward the postseason,&#8221; said <strong>Chris Lindauer,<\/strong> the Louisville assistant who coached in Albiero&#8217;s place.\u00a0 &#8220;We took advantage of every opportunity. We had positive team energy and won the small details which was what led us to a great team win today.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Missouri biggest success came in breaststroke. <strong>Ben Patton<\/strong> outdueled Somov to win the 100 before claiming the 200 individual medley, and <strong>Will Goodwin<\/strong> claimed the 200 breast. <strong>Luke Davis<\/strong> won the 200 fly and was second to Lowe in the 100 fly.<\/p>\n<p>In the women\u2019s meet, Louisville\u2019s <strong>Abby Hay<\/strong> won the 200 IM and the 200 fly. <strong>Kaylee Wheeler<\/strong> (100 breast) and <strong>Alena Kraus<\/strong> (200 free) paired a relay win with an individual triumph.
