THE No. 1-ranked University of Michigan men&#39;s swimming and diving team finished runner-up at the Eastern Michigan Golden Eagle Invitational here this weekend,Invitational, <\/p>\n<p>The Michigan women&#39;s team was in action at the U.S. Oen in Minneapolis. <\/p>\n<p>The meet concluded tonight in EM&#39;s Michael H. Jones Natatorium. Coach Jon Urbancek&#39;s Wolverines, ranked No. 1 in the latest CSCAA Top 25, swam a majority of their top performers in events other than their specialties and exhibitioned several others in the two-day event. <\/p>\n<p>Host Eastern Michigan took the top spot in the meet with a total of 1,157 points, more than 300 ahead of U-M (815). <\/p>\n<p>Michigan won eight events during the two days of competition, including first-place finishes in the 400- and 800-yard freestyle relays as well as the 400 medley relay. <\/p>\n<p>Fifth-year senior co-captain Jeff Hopwood won both the breaststroke events with 56.59-2:02.62 clockings for the 100-200.  <\/p>\n<p>Michigan highlighted its distance swimmers in the 200 and 500 freestyles as junior Dan Ketchum and freshman Peter Vanderkaay earned NCAA consideration times. Swimming exhibition in the 200 free, Ketchum posted his third NCAA consideration time of the season, touching the wall at 1:37.75. In the 500, Vanderkaay posted the fastest time in the event at 4:21.47 as an exhibition competitor. <\/p>\n<p>The Wolverines will spend their winter break on the island of Hawaii for winter training and a meet against the Academy Swim Club on Saturday, Dec. 28, in Waimea, Hawaii.
