While she\u2019s missed competition, the consummate distance swimmer has appreciated the unbroken training time as she seeks to qualify for her third Olympic Games.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m excited,\u201d Ledecky said. \u201cI\u2019m really looking forward to having the opportunity to hopefully represent team USA. I\u2019m training hard and getting ready to go for 2021. \u2026 I\u2019m excited for what I can do in competition next year.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.today.com\/today\/embedded-video\/mmvo98323525789\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Ledecky, the six-time Olympic medalist and holder of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/world-swimming-records-long-course-meters\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">three world records<\/a>, has spent the time training and working out at home, in addition to finishing her degree from Stanford and taking <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/watch-katie-ledecky-pull-off-stunning-balancing-act-in-got-milk-challenge\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">over the Internet with her in-pool exploits<\/a>. The 23-year-old is encouraged by the accelerated progress for a COVID-19 vaccine and will gladly be in line to get hers once they\u2019re available.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m definitely going to get the vaccine when it\u2019s available to me,\u201d she said. \u201cI\u2019m so happy to see so many healthcare workers getting it now, and I know eventually it will be available for all of us, and I\u2019m looking forward to getting it. I don\u2019t know exactly how it\u2019s all going to work. I\u2019m just going to keep my ears open and make sure I get it when it\u2019s available to me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ledecky is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/greg-meehan-on-why-he-thinks-katie-ledecky-simone-manuel-are-still-improving-as-athletes\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">one of the top American swimmers<\/a> heading into the Olympic year, thought she\u2019ll still face a battle to get to Tokyo in at least three individual events, with the 1,500 freestyle <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/2021-trials-vision-katie-ledecky-striving-for-inaugural-1500-freestyle-gold\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">added to the Games<\/a> to augment the 400 and 800 for the women.<\/p>\n<p>As soon as the Olympics were postponed last spring, Ledecky saw the opportunity for the Games to be a great celebration of global resistance once it was safe for them to be staged. As that possibility inches ever closer, the excitement is heightened.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think right when the Olympics were postponed, I started thinking about how special that really could be, with kind of the first time hopefully the world is able to come together and cheer on their athletes,\u201d Katie Ledecky said. \u201cAnd I hope we\u2019re in a good place by July of 2021 and it can be a tribute to the world coming together to defeat the virus.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Katie Ledecky is excited about her training and looking forward to the calendar clicking over to 2021, she said in an interview with the Today Show Wednesday.
