Pop Star Cody Simpson Achieves Lifelong Dream of Australian Olympic Trials<\/strong><\/p>\n

Cody Simpson<\/strong>, who is best known as a world famous singer, has returned to the pool and achieved one of his lifelong dreams of qualifying for the Australian Olympic Trials. Simpson, who was a highly successful age group swimmer in Australia before pursuing a career in music, has been training with\u00a0<\/a>Brett Hawke<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>in Los Angeles, and achieved the qualifying standard in the 100-meter butterfly at 54.91, well ahead of the 56.87 qualifying standard<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Before Simpson found stardom in the music industry, and also celebrated acting and modeling success, he was an age-group swimming star in Australia and harbored dreams of racing at the Olympic Games. As a youth, Simpson was a Queensland age-group champ in the 100 butterfly and 200 individual medley<\/a>. While those victories arrived in 12-and-under competition, anyone familiar with the sport recognizes the talent racing at any level in Queensland.<\/p>\n

Cody Simpson wrote on social media:<\/p>\n

“I\u2019d love to share this personal milestone and let you in on my current journey as an athlete that I\u2019ve kept relatively low key until now. Growing up competing, and then inevitably having to cut my career short as 13 year old Australian champion when I was given an opportunity in music that I couldn\u2019t refuse. I have had the chance to experience and learn so much as a musician from touring around the world, releasing albums, performing as a leading man on Broadway, publishing a work of poetry, traveling with and speaking at the United Nations on environmental and oceanic matters and much more. For this I will be forever grateful.<\/p>\n

“Now almost exactly 10 years later, here I am once more. For years I had been fueled by the silent fire in my stomach of returning to the sport of swimming, with the idea that 2020 would be the year I\u2019d try training again. After only 5 months back in the water with my incredible coach Brett Hawke<\/strong>, I was able to take out a win and secure a spot at next years Australian Olympic trials in the 100 fly.<\/p>\n

“It is my greatest ambition to expand the limit and perceived notion of what\u2019s possible for someone to achieve in a single lifetime, and I\u2019m here to tell you can do absolutely ANYTHING if you are willing to work for it. I\u2019m looking forward to seeing where this all takes me on the long road ahead!”<\/p>\n
