Girls swimming and diving is a fall sport in New York State; fall sports championships <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/nysphsaa-cancels-fall-high-school-championships-drafts-condensed-schedule\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">were cancelled in July<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen examining the feasibility of Winter State Championships, it became apparent that travel and overnight accommodations would create a unique challenge for our member schools,\u201d NYSPHSAA Executive Director said Dr. <strong>Robert Zayas<\/strong> said in a statement. \u201cAt this time, we must prioritize maximizing student participation without a focus on championship events.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\"><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/NYSPHSAA?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#NYSPHSAA<\/a> has announced that the 2021 Winter State Championships are cancelled and all high-risk sports will be postponed until authorization is provided by state officials. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/P61uDNBO1S\">https:\/\/t.co\/P61uDNBO1S<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/zOMXeuqTnO\">pic.twitter.com\/zOMXeuqTnO<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 NYSPHSAA (@NYSPHSAA) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/NYSPHSAA\/status\/1337474196948004865?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">December 11, 2020<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>Friday\u2019s announcement included a postponement of all high-risk sports in the state as COVID-19 case numbers continue to climb.
