The schools compete in Division III.<\/p>\n<p>The list of sports impacted, in addition to men\u2019s and women\u2019s swimming, includes men\u2019s and women\u2019s cross country, field hockey, football, men\u2019s and women\u2019s soccer, volleyball, men\u2019s and women\u2019s basketball, men\u2019s and women\u2019s indoor track and field and wrestling.<\/p>\n<p>From a conference statement:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>This difficult decision was made following several months of meetings and discussions among all levels of the Conference governance structure. Extensive strategies were evaluated as to how to safely and effectively conduct Conference competitions for fall and winter sports during the spring semester. Ultimately, a number of factors impacted this decision, including the rising number of COVID-19 cases across the country, the shift of spring academic calendars to a later start, campus policies regarding travel, group size and visitors to campus, and the ability to meet recommended NCAA testing guidelines.<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\"><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/CentConf?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#CentConf<\/a> statement regarding fall and winter sports<\/p>\n<p>? <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/4L1m45wBuK\">https:\/\/t.co\/4L1m45wBuK<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/LVkR7IViKZ\">pic.twitter.com\/LVkR7IViKZ<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 CentennialConference (@CentennialConf) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/CentennialConf\/status\/1337109962565234690?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">December 10, 2020<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>The Centennial had been among the early conferences to act in the summer, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/centennial-conference-announces-suspension-of-athletics-for-fall-semester\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">cancelling all competition for the fall semester by the first week in July<\/a>. Conditions remain untenable to resume varsity athletics when the winter semester begins in January.<\/p>\n<p>Thursday\u2019s decision does not leave open the possibility of schools competing independently or outside of the conference competitions, though there is hope to schedule fall\/winter competitions during the spring season, if the COVID-19 conditions ease regionally and nationally. Thursday\u2019s statement only pledged to \u201ccontinue to find meaningful ways to engage student-athletes in athletic activities.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The outlook for spring competition, which was suspended last year, will be re-evaluated in January.
