{"id":456234,"date":"2020-12-04T16:40:42","date_gmt":"2020-12-04T23:40:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=456234"},"modified":"2020-12-05T16:18:41","modified_gmt":"2020-12-05T23:18:41","slug":"torri-huske-goes-143-in-200-free-at-2020-18-under-winter-championships","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/torri-huske-goes-143-in-200-free-at-2020-18-under-winter-championships\/","title":{"rendered":"Torri Huske Goes 1:43 in 200 Free at 2020 18 &#038; Under Winter Championships; Also Wins 200 Fly"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Torri Huske\u00a0<\/strong>continued her strong performance at the 2020 18 &amp; Under Winter Championships.<\/p>\n<p>On Day 2, Huske won the 200 free in 1:43.23, dropping more than three seconds from her prelims time in the event, and besting the field by more than three seconds.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Erin Gemmell<\/strong> was second in 1:46.49.<\/p>\n<p>Other winners on Day 2 included <strong>Sophie Duncan<\/strong> in the girls 400 IM (4:11.75), <strong>Toby Barnett<\/strong> in the boys 400 IM (3:52.71), <strong>Landon Gentry<\/strong> in the boys 200 free (1:37.87), <strong>Abby Daniel<\/strong> in the girls 100 breast (1:02.04) and Anthony Grimm in the boys 100 breast (53.86).<\/p>\n<p>On Day 3, Huske won the 200 fly in 1:54.04.<\/p>\n<p>On Day 1, the Arlington Aquatic Club swimmer won the 50-yard freestyle in 21.43, just 11 hundredths of a second off the national age group record of 21.32 set by <strong>Simone Manuel<\/strong> in 2015.<\/p>\n<p>The meet is taking place through Dec. 13 at several sites around the country, run in virtual style as the U.S. Open was. Huske was competing at the Sterling, Virginia, site.<\/p>\n<p>NCAP\u2019s <strong>Camille Spink<\/strong> was second in 22.65.<\/p>\n<p>Torri Huske then won the 100 butterfly in 50.29, just a tenth off of the 17-18 NAG set by <strong>Olivia Bray<\/strong> last year. It was nearly three seconds ahead of the field.<\/p>\n<p>Other winners in Sterling included MAKO\u2019s <strong>Anthony Grimm<\/strong>, who won the boys 50 free in 19.99 NCAP\u2019s <strong>Eleanor Sun<\/strong> won the 200 breast (2:16.82). <strong>Toby Barnett<\/strong> won the boys 200 breast (2:00.56). NCAP\u2019s <strong>Landon Gentry<\/strong> won the boys 100 fly (46.41).<\/p>\n<p>These weren\u2019t the first big swims for Torri Huske in 2020.<\/p>\n<p>Huske had a strong U.S. Open <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/torri-huske-picks-up-momentum-following-us-open-title\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">meet last month:<\/a><\/p>\n<p>She won the U.S. Open title in the 100 freestyle, finishing in 54.04, finishing ahead of <strong>Gretchen Walsh<\/strong> (54.37), <strong>Claire<\/strong> <strong>Curzan<\/strong> (54.93) and <strong>Mallory Comerford<\/strong> (55.21).<\/p>\n<p>Torri Huske closed her meet with a seventh-place finish in the 200 butterfly (2:14.03).<\/p>\n<p>Huske opened with a second-place overall finish in the 200-meter individual medley. Her time of 2:11.18 trailed only <strong>Madisyn Cox<\/strong> (2:10.49) and was ahead of <strong>Kathleen Baker<\/strong> (2:12.97).<\/p>\n<p>Just 11 minutes later, Huske took ninth in the 50 freestyle overall with a 25.72.<\/p>\n<p>On the second day, Torri Huske swam the 100 butterfly and finished second overall in 57.36, trailing only<strong> Claire Curzan<\/strong> (56.61), finishing ahead of <strong>Kate Douglass<\/strong> (57.43),<strong> MacNeil<\/strong> (57.75), who won the world championship in the event in 2019, and <strong>Regan Smith<\/strong> (58.09).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Torri Huske\u00a0continued her strong performance at the 2020 18 &amp; Under Winter Championships.
