Virginia sophomore\u00a0Kate Douglass<\/strong>, fresh off becoming the third fastest performer in the 200 IM<\/a>, moved to a tie for fifth all-time in the 100 butterfly, becoming the seventh member of the sub-50 club with a 49.73 on Friday night at the Tennessee Double Dual with the Vols and Alabama. Douglass improved on her best time of 50.18 from this morning to now sit tied with\u00a0Claire Curzan\u00a0<\/strong>on the all-time list.<\/p>\n

    Douglass also split a 21.95 on butterfly in the 200 medley relay as the Cavaliers swam to a 1:34.35. The team of\u00a0Caroline Gmelich\u00a0<\/strong>(24.26),\u00a0\u00a0Alexis Wenger\u00a0<\/strong>(26.39) and\u00a0Alex Walsh\u00a0<\/strong>(21.75) got within a few tenths of their mid-season time from last season of 1:33.91. Virginia won ahead of Tennessee (1:37.47). The Cavaliers also got wins on the night from\u00a0Ella Nelson\u00a0<\/strong>in the 400 IM (4:05.02) and\u00a0Paige Madden\u00a0<\/strong>in the 200 free (1:42.39).<\/p>\n
    Virginia also did not swim the 800 free relays, in favor of getting to the hotel earlier in preparation for tomorrow.<\/p>\n
    Tennessee’s\u00a0Mona McSharry\u00a0<\/strong>put up an impressive time in the 100 breaststroke with a 58.28, winning ahead of Virginia freshman\u00a0Alex Walsh\u00a0<\/strong>(59.02) and junior Alexis Wenger (59.12). Alabama’s\u00a0Rhyan White<\/strong>, who was one of our top returning swimmers in the NCAA this season<\/a>, won the 100 back with a solid time of 50.45, not far off her 50.02 that she swam in winning SECs last year.<\/p>\n
    Alabama closed the session with a win in the 800 free relay at 7:05.69 with\u00a0Morgan Scott\u00a0<\/strong>(1:45.79),\u00a0Kensey McMahon\u00a0<\/strong>(1:46.83),\u00a0Ashley Voelkerding\u00a0<\/strong>(1:46.77) and\u00a0Gracie Felner\u00a0<\/strong>(1:46.30) holding off Tennessee’s team of\u00a0Alexis Yager\u00a0<\/strong>(1:47.69),\u00a0Trude Rothrock\u00a0<\/strong>(1:45.39),\u00a0Abby Samansky\u00a0<\/strong>(1:47.43) and\u00a0Tjasa Pintar\u00a0<\/strong>(1:45.32) at 7:05.32.<\/p>\n
    On the men’s side of the meet, Alabama swept both relays with a 1:24.65 in the medley with the team of Matthew Menke\u00a0<\/strong>(21.71),\u00a0Liam Bell\u00a0<\/strong>(23.59),\u00a0Colton Stogner\u00a0<\/strong>(20.48) and Matt King\u00a0<\/strong>(18.87), while the 800 free relay team of Bell (1:36.01),\u00a0Cam Auerbach\u00a0<\/strong>(1:35.78),\u00a0Kacper Piotrowski\u00a0<\/strong>(1:35.43) and\u00a0Jonathan Berneburg\u00a0<\/strong>(1:38.28) won at 6:25.50.<\/p>\n
    The Crimson Tide also collected an individual win from\u00a0Jake Marcum\u00a0<\/strong>at 46.83, just ahead of Menke at 46.84.<\/p>\n
    The Virginia men used the momentum gathered from the women’s team to win both the 400 IM with\u00a0Casey Storch\u00a0<\/strong>(3:45.71) and the 200 free with Jack Wright\u00a0<\/strong>(1:34.88), going 1-2 in both races.<\/p>\n
    Tennessee also collected a pair of individual wins from transfer\u00a0Kayky Mota\u00a0<\/strong>in the 100 fly (45.50) and\u00a0Michael Houlie\u00a0<\/strong>in the 100 breast (51.89)<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
