She was ahead of some big names including 2019 national champ\u00a0<strong>Ally McHugh\u00a0<\/strong>(8:29.36), teammate\u00a0<strong>Erica Sullivan\u00a0<\/strong>(8:31.38) and open water Olympian\u00a0<strong>Ashley Twichell\u00a0<\/strong>(8:33.58). Sarasota&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Emma Weyant<\/strong>, who is taking a gap year to train at home instead of at the University of Virginia, won the race in her home pool with an 8:34.93 while Indiana commit\u00a0<strong>Mariah Denigan\u00a0<\/strong>finished sixth overall at 8:36.72.<\/p>\n<p>The time for Sims puts her fifth all-time in the 15-16 age group behind Olympic gold medalists\u00a0<strong>Katie Ledecky\u00a0<\/strong>(8:13.86),\u00a0<strong>Janet Evans\u00a0<\/strong>(8:17.12) and World champion\u00a0<strong>Kim Linehan\u00a0<\/strong>(8:24.70).\u00a0<strong>Becca Mann\u00a0<\/strong>sits third all-time at 8:22.45.
