That includes men\u2019s swimming.<\/p>\n<p>The university had\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/william-mary-to-cut-swimming-diving-after-2020-21-season\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">announced in September<\/a>\u00a0that seven sports would be cut, including men\u2019s and women\u2019s swimming. The other affected sports included men\u2019s and women\u2019s gymnastics, men\u2019s indoor and outdoor track &amp; field and women\u2019s volleyball.<\/p>\n<p>Last month, citing\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/citing-title-ix-pressure-william-mary-reinstates-womens-swimming\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">pending Title IX litigation<\/a>, it decided to reinstate three women\u2019s sports: Women\u2019s swimming, women\u2019s volleyball and women\u2019s gymnastics. That move\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/this-is-not-what-we-asked-for-william-mary-reinstates-womens-but-not-mens-swimming\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">wasn\u2019t received as well even by team members in the reinstated sports<\/a>, with the women\u2019s swimming team vowing to fight on under the \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/commentary-the-loss-of-william-mary-swimming-is-a-loss-of-family\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">one family, one fight<\/a>\u201d banner. That has yielded, among other things,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/CHHJefNprPA\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">$3.6 million in pledges<\/a>\u00a0raised to fund the swimming team.<\/p>\n<p>It also has forced the William &amp; Mary administration to rethink its approach and the problems it was hoping to solve with the original cuts, the threat of Title IX lawsuits an indication that the changes weren\u2019t achieving those goals. to the 2012 London Olympics.<\/p>\n<p>The test threatens to strip six Australian swimmers of their medals for the first time in history and comes at the same Games that saw the Australian men\u2019s 4x100m freestyle relay team embroiled in the infamous \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/strong-words-from-australian-olympian-dawn-fraser-for-stilnox-six\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Stilnox affair<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theage.com.au\/sport\/swimming\/australian-olympic-swimming-medals-at-risk-after-team-member-tests-positive-to-2012-drug-sample-20201106-p56c84.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em>The Age<\/em><\/a>\u00a0newspaper in Melbourne has broken the extraordinary revelations that \u201cDual Olympian\u00a0<strong>Brenton Rickard<\/strong>, part of the men\u2019s 4 x 100 metre medley team that won bronze at the Games, has tested positive to banned diuretic Furosemide in a re-screening of the sample he gave eight years ago.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Rickard, Lohn<\/em><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The swimming world has lost a legend from its coaching ranks, as Australia\u2019s\u00a0<strong>Don Talbot<\/strong>\u00a0died on Tuesday at the age of 87. Talbot, a 1979 inductee into the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ishof.org\/don-talbot-(aus).html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">International Swimming Hall of Fame<\/a>, is regarded as one of the greatest coaching minds in history, having guided his homeland to significant success while also molding some of the top names in the sport. Talbot was known as a taskmaster, but his success also warranted tremendous respect and appreciation for his coaching skills.<\/p>\n<p>Talbot made his name known through the work he did with\u00a0<strong>John<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>Ilsa Konrads<\/strong>, freestyle aces for Australia in the 1950s and 1960s. With Talbot guiding their careers, the Konrads siblings each set world records in the 400, 800 and 1500 freestyle, with John adding a global standard in the 200 freestyle and three medals at the 1960 Olympics in Rome. With coronavirus cases spiking in many areas around the United States, USA Swimming took steps to ensure that meets organized at the LSC level placed emphasis on creating a safe competition atmosphere.<\/p>\n<p>At the beginning of October, USA Swimming gave LSCs the opportunity to sanction meets with clubs from outside their LSCs. This decision was made to enable a return to strong competition and to give athletes the chance to race at a higher level than what would be possible within the LSC.
