Brophy Prep, the powerhouse that has won <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/brophy-prep-boys-break-two-state-records-to-win-32nd-straight-arizona-di-state-title-chaparral-girls-get-no-6\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">32 straight state championships<\/a>, was forced to pull out of the meet this weekend due to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/brophy-prep-32-time-reigning-arizona-champ-pulls-out-of-states-due-to-covid\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">COVID-19 cluster<\/a>, and Chaparral won the boys&#8217; meet with 302 points.<\/p>\n<p>Chaparral&#8217;s<strong> Ashley Strouse<\/strong> was named the Women\u2019s Athlete of the Year while Sunnyslope&#8217;s <strong>Tate Bahti\u00a0<\/strong>earned the honor of Men&#8217;s Athlete of the Year.<\/p>\n<p>Full meet results can be found on Meet Mobile \u2013 AIA D1 Swim &amp; Dive Championships.<\/p>\n<h1>GIRLS MEET<\/h1>\n<h2>Top 5 Team Scores:<\/h2>\n<p>1. Chaparral &#8211; 452.5<br \/>\n2. Xavier College Prep &#8211; 267<br \/>\n3. Red Mountain &#8211; 208<br \/>\n4. Mountain View &#8211; 156<br \/>\n5. Desert Vista &#8211; 139<\/p>\n<p>Chaparral began their winning ways as\u00a0<strong>Greer Pattison\u00a0<\/strong>(25.61),\u00a0<strong>Riley Courtney\u00a0<\/strong>(29.26),\u00a0<strong>Morgan Brophy\u00a0<\/strong>(24.50), and<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>Strouse(23.37) won the opening 4&#215;50 medley relay in 1:42.74. Courtney (23.91),\u00a0<strong>Ava Cunningham\u00a0<\/strong>(24.62),\u00a0<strong>Grace Dunn\u00a0<\/strong>(24.32), and\u00a0<strong>Samantha Krew\u00a0<\/strong>(23.74) also won the 4&#215;50 free relay in 1:36.59.<\/p>\n<p>For the fourth-straight year, Strouse found herself on top of the podium in both the 200 free and 500 free. The U.S. National Junior Teamer and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/northwestern-earns-2021-verbal-from-u-s-national-junior-teamer-ashley-strouse\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Northwestern commit<\/a> stopped the clock in 1:47.15 in the 200 free as the only swimmer under the 1:50-mark. She also dominated the 500 free, winning by 13 seconds in 4:46.20.<\/p>\n<p>Pattison, who is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/five-time-arizona-di-state-champion-greer-pattison-sends-2021-verbal-to-tar-heels\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">off to North Carolina next fall<\/a>, successfully defended her state title for the third-straight year in the 50 free in a quick 23.64. After winning the 100 back last season, she grabbed silver this year in 55.21. Brophy, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/longhorns-snag-2021-verbal-from-scottsdale-aquatic-clubs-morgan-brophy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">who has committed to Texas<\/a>, repeated as champion in the 100 fly, getting her hands to the wall in 54.79 to win by nearly two seconds. She also took third in the 200 IM (2:03.28).<\/p>\n<p>In Millennium\u2019s first year in DI, junior <strong>Kennedy Noble\u00a0<\/strong>cruised to first in the 200 IM with a final time of 2:00.70. Noble, who recently <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/junior-national-champion-kennedy-noble-sends-2022-verbal-nod-to-nc-state-wolfpack\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">sent her verbal commitment to NC State<\/a>, also won the 100 back in 52.95 &#8211; just off her state record of 52.73 from last year.<\/p>\n<p>O&#8217;Connor&#8217;s <strong>Caelle Armijo\u00a0<\/strong>sprinted to the top of the podium in the 100 free, stopping the clock in 52.13 to edge out runner-up\u00a0<strong>Kelly Scott\u00a0<\/strong>(52.17) of Xavier College Prep. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/phoenix-swim-clubs-mia-rankin-verbally-commits-to-ohio-state-for-2021\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Future Ohio State Buckeye<\/a> <strong>Mia Rankin <\/strong>of Xavier College Prep finished second in both the 200 IM (2:00.70) and 500 free (4:59.57).<\/p>\n<p>Mountain View\u2019s\u00a0<strong>Emma Becker\u00a0<\/strong>won the 100 breast for the second-consecutive season, touching the wall in 1:03.94 for the win. Desert Ridge&#8217;s <strong>Alexandra Robertson\u00a0<\/strong>dove to first on the 1-meter board, posting a final score of 476.70.<\/p>\n<p>Chaparral made it a relay sweep and extended their win even more as Strouse (50.70), Krew (51.86), Brophy (51.93), and Pattison (51.58) dominated the 4&#215;100 free relay in 3:26.07.<\/p>\n<h1>BOYS MEET<\/h1>\n<h2>Top 5 Team Scores:<\/h2>\n<p>1. Chaparral &#8211; 302<br \/>\n2. Desert Vista &#8211; 285<br \/>\n3. Boulder Creek &#8211; 171.5<br \/>\n4. Pinnacle &#8211; 157.5<br \/>\n5. Sunnyslope &#8211; 156.5<\/p>\n<p>The opening 4&#215;50 medley relay went to Pinnacle as the quartet of\u00a0<strong>Benjamin Scott\u00a0<\/strong>(26.19),\u00a0<strong>Luca Gissendaner\u00a0<\/strong>(25.18),\u00a0<strong>Reagan Dresser\u00a0<\/strong>(23.86), and\u00a0<strong>Aaron Rosen\u00a0<\/strong>(20.76) won in 1:35.99.<\/p>\n<p>The 200 free proved to be a close race as Perry&#8217;s <strong>Evan Nail\u00a0<\/strong><em>nailed\u00a0<\/em>his finish to win in 1:41.77, edging out runner-up Rosen (1:41.86). Cibola&#8217;s <strong>Ayden Dusek\u00a0<\/strong>powered home to a win in the 100 back, clocking in at 51.26 to take the title ahead of Chaparral&#8217;s <strong>Ethan Mindlin\u00a0<\/strong>(51.74).<\/p>\n<p>Bahti, who will stay in-state and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/arizona-dii-state-champion-tate-bahti-delivers-in-state-verbal-to-wildcats-for-2021\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">swim for the Wildcats<\/a>, handily won the 200 IM in 1:51.77 &#8211; five seconds ahead of the field &#8211; in his team&#8217;s DI debut. He was back in the water to earn his second state title, this time in the 100 breast after getting his hands to the wall the fastest in 56.42.<\/p>\n<p>Boulder Creek&#8217;s <strong>Rick Popper\u00a0<\/strong>splashed-and-dashed his way to the top of the podium in the 50 free with a quick time of 21.15. He proved his sprint prowess by also claiming the 100 free in 46.66 ahead of runner-up <strong>Maxwell Nielsen\u00a0<\/strong>(46.95) of Desert Vista.<\/p>\n<p>Desert Ridge\u2019s\u00a0<strong>Essias<\/strong> <strong>Smith<\/strong>, who will <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/two-time-arizona-state-champion-essias-smith-stays-local-verbals-to-sun-devils-for-2021\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">suit up for the Sun Devils next fall<\/a>, defended his state title in the 100 fly as the only swimmer to crack the 50-second barrier, doing so in 49.91. The 500 free state title went to Desert Vista&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Jack Luken\u00a0<\/strong>in 4:34.05, just under one second faster than Dobson&#8217;s <strong>Carson Hamblin\u00a0<\/strong>who took second in 4:35.01.<\/p>\n<p>Luken (22.18) combined with teammates Nielsen (21.55),\u00a0<strong>Caleb Stanley\u00a0<\/strong>(21.34), and\u00a0<strong>Evan Bushko\u00a0<\/strong>(21.61) to claim the 4&#215;50 free crown in 1:26.68.
