The boys of Sarasota secured the championship crown with a final score of 254.5, outlasting defending champions Barron Collier (200).<\/p>\n<p>Click <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/results\/2020-florida-3a-state-championships\/high-school\/2020\/November\/6?rtn=%2Fresults%2Fhigh-school\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">HERE<\/a> for full results and team scores.<\/p>\n<h1>GIRLS MEET<\/h1>\n<h2>Top 5 Team Scores:<\/h2>\n<p>1. Lawton Chiles &#8211; 242<br \/>\n2. Fleming Island &#8211; 208<br \/>\n3. Countryside &#8211; 188<br \/>\n4. Fort Myers &#8211; 164<br \/>\n5. Osceola Fundamental &#8211; 149<\/p>\n<p>The meet began as Lawton Chiles&#8217;\u00a0<strong>Sarah Grimm\u00a0<\/strong>(26.90),\u00a0<strong>Emma Grimm\u00a0<\/strong>(29.79),\u00a0<strong>Abree Clark\u00a0<\/strong>(25.93), and\u00a0<strong>Christine Johnson\u00a0<\/strong>(24.35) won the opening 4&#215;50 medley relay in 1:46.97, only slightly ahead of runner-up Fort Myers (1:47.09). Osceola Fundamental\u2019s\u00a0<strong>Carina Lumia\u00a0<\/strong>dove to first on the 1-meter board for the second-straight year, posting a final score of 475.55.<\/p>\n<p>Freedom&#8217;s <strong>Michelle Morgan\u00a0<\/strong>was victorious in the 200 IM with a time of 2:00.92, finishing over a second ahead of last year&#8217;s champion and\u00a0U.S. National Junior teamer <strong>Olivia McMurray\u00a0<\/strong>of Fort Myers. McMurray, a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/u-s-national-junior-teamer-olivia-mcmurray-verbally-commits-to-texas-for-2021\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">future Texas Longhorn,<\/a> then went on to successfully defend her state title in the 500 free, turning in a time of 4:46.44 to beat the field by two seconds.<\/p>\n<p>Lawton Chiles\u2019\u00a0<strong>Lydia Hanlon\u00a0<\/strong>flew to first place in the 100 fly, clocking in a 53.73 for the second-consecutive year, while Cardwell was the runner-up in 54.24. Hanlon later won the 100 back for the third-straight season, posting a final time of 54.44 as the only athlete in the race under 55 seconds.<\/p>\n<p>Pace&#8217;s <strong>Emma Wortman\u00a0<\/strong>got her hands to the wall the fastest in the 100 breast with a time of 1:03.32 ti best the field by over a full second. Countryside sophomore <strong>Summer Cardwell\u00a0<\/strong>successfully defended her state title in the 200 free, stopping the clock in 1:48.40 as the only swimmer to crack the 1:50-barrier.<\/p>\n<p>After placing second in 2019, Port St. Lucie\u2019s\u00a0<strong>Sarah Evan\u00a0<\/strong>sprinted to the top of the podium in the 50 free, finishing the race in a final time of 23.41. Countryside&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Gisella Wright\u00a0<\/strong>had an impressive showing in the 100 free, winning the state title in 50.84 while Winter Springs&#8217;\u00a0<strong>Julia<\/strong> <strong>Mauter<\/strong>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/akron-zips-up-another-verbal-commitment-from-florida-3a-state-runner-up-julia-mauter\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">an Akron commit<\/a>, again finished second (52.17).<\/p>\n<p>Wright (23.77) combined with teammates Cardwell (23.37),\u00a0<strong>Abigail Taugner\u00a0<\/strong>(24.44), and\u00a0<strong>Ugne Koveraite\u00a0<\/strong>(23.92) to give Countryside a win in the 4&#215;50 free relay with a final time of 1:35.50. Wright (51.61),\u00a0<strong>Megan German\u00a0<\/strong>(53.62), Taugner (54.17), and Cardwell (50.13) joined forces again to win the 4&#215;100 free relay in 3:29.53.<\/p>\n<h1>BOYS MEET<\/h1>\n<h2>Top 5 Team Scores:<\/h2>\n<p>1. Sarasota &#8211; 254.5<br \/>\n2. Barron Collier &#8211; 200<br \/>\n3. Lawton Chiles &#8211; 190.5<br \/>\n4. Countryside &#8211; 170<br \/>\n5. Osceola Fundamental &#8211; 126<\/p>\n<p>Barron Collier&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>William Eriksson\u00a0<\/strong>(25.11),\u00a0<strong>Andrew Garner\u00a0<\/strong>(25.20),\u00a0<strong>Mason Laur <\/strong>(21.42), and <strong>Charles Marsala\u00a0<\/strong>(21.20)<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>got the boys&#8217; meet off to a quick start by winning the 4&#215;50 medley relay in 1:32.93. Garner (20.70), Marsala (21.52),\u00a0<strong>Marc Savolle\u00a0<\/strong>(21.99), and Laur (20.79) teamed up to win the 4&#215;50 free relay in 1:25.00.<\/p>\n<p>Garner, who finished second in the 100 free a year ago, redeemed himself this season by winning the event in a swift 45.28 ahead of Land O Lakes\u2019\u00a0<strong>Zuri Ramsey<\/strong> (45.87). The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/jackson-brown-andrew-garner-verbally-commit-to-minnesotas-class-of-2025\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">soon-to-be Golden Gopher<\/a> got his hands to the wall the quickest in the 100 breast, clocking in at 55.07.<\/p>\n<p>Forest&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Riley Sampson\u00a0<\/strong>cruised to first in the 200 free, touching the wall in 1:38.78 as the only swimmer in the race to sneak under the 1:40-mark. After taking second in the 500 free in 2019, he won the event this year in 4:26.15 &#8211; but it proved to be a close race as Countryside&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Andrew Taylor\u00a0<\/strong>was close behind in 4:26.20.<\/p>\n<p>It was deja-vu from 2019: Barron Collier\u2019s <strong>Mason Laur\u00a0<\/strong>touched the wall in 1:46.53 for a win in the 200 IM ahead of <strong>Hayden Kwan\u00a0<\/strong>of Lawton Chiles who raced to second in 1:48.78. Laur, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/junior-national-200-fly-champion-mason-laur-verbally-commits-to-florida-for-2021\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">who is headed off to Florida next fall<\/a>, flew to the top of the podium in the 100 fly in a quick 48.21, only two-tenths ahead of defending champion <strong>Andrew Billitto\u00a0<\/strong>of Seminole (48.41).<\/p>\n<p>Kwan, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/florida-3a-100-back-state-champion-hayden-kwan-verbally-commits-to-stanford\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">a Stanford commit<\/a>, completed his three-peat in the 100 back after winning the event in 48.62 ahead of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/backstroker-lance-lesage-verbally-commits-to-purdue-for-fall-of-2021\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">future Boilermaker<\/a>\u00a0<strong>Lance Lesage\u00a0<\/strong>of St. Thomas Aquinas (48.80). After taking second in the 50 free, Ramsey splashed and dashed his way to the 50 free state title, stopping the clock in 20.51 for the second-straight year.<\/p>\n<p>South Fort Myers\u2019\u00a0<strong>Brandon Shepherd\u00a0<\/strong>dominated the 1-meter board to defend his title, posting a final score of 490.60.
