{"id":452219,"date":"2020-11-04T22:54:34","date_gmt":"2020-11-05T05:54:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=452219"},"modified":"2020-11-04T22:54:34","modified_gmt":"2020-11-05T05:54:34","slug":"brophy-prep-32-time-reigning-arizona-champ-pulls-out-of-states-due-to-covid","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/brophy-prep-32-time-reigning-arizona-champ-pulls-out-of-states-due-to-covid\/","title":{"rendered":"Brophy Prep, 32-Time Reigning Arizona Champ, Pulls out of States Due to COVID"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Brophy Prep, the Phoenix high school powerhouse that has won <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/brophy-prep-boys-break-two-state-records-to-win-32nd-straight-arizona-di-state-title-chaparral-girls-get-no-6\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">32 straight state championships<\/a>, has been forced to pull out of the Arizona high school championships this weekend due to a COVID-19 cluster.<\/p>\n<p>The school <a href=\"https:\/\/www.azcentral.com\/story\/sports\/high-school\/2020\/11\/04\/brophys-historic-32-year-state-championship-swim-streak-ends\/6167113002\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">announced the decision Wednesday<\/a> ahead of this weekend\u2019s Arizona Interscholastic Association Division I meet. Brophy Prep has won 42 state championships overall and has been recognized by Swimming World as a past champion of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/germantown-academy-brophy-prep-named-national-high-school-team-champions\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">its mythical national meet<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The timing of this development could not be more unfortunate,\u201d principal <strong>Bob Ryan<\/strong> wrote in a letter to parents. \u201cIt is a bitter pill to swallow but, as a Jesuit high school, it is also an opportunity to embrace the sometimes difficult mandate that we live our lives as men for others. We must keep in mind the greater good that it is our duty to protect.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The school did not share specifics of the outbreak, but <em>The Arizona Republic<\/em> notes that in Maricopa County, where the school is located, an outbreak constitutes \u201ctwo or more students who have tested positive within a 14-day period and could have come into close contact with others during class or athletics.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>All members of the team will remain in quarantine until at least Nov. 14.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am proud of our program and grateful to Coach (<strong>Daren<\/strong>) <strong>Brubaker<\/strong> for his hard work and dedication,&#8221; Ryan wrote. &#8220;Next season, I look forward to picking up where we left off and continuing the Brophy swim
