World Champion\u00a0Simona Quadarella\u00a0<\/strong>of Italy has announced she has received a negative test for COVID-19 after testing positive<\/a> a couple weeks ago, forcing her out of her training camp in Livigno. Quadarella was among nine other Italian national swimmers at the camp that tested positive for the virus as daily cases in Italy skyrocketed to as high as 31,000+ on October 31.<\/p>\n

World champs Quadarella and Gabriele Detti\u00a0<\/strong>were among the ten names listed that tested positive for the virus October 20, along with Federico Burdisso<\/strong>,\u00a0Martina Caramignoli<\/strong>,\u00a0Marco De Tullio<\/strong>,\u00a0Stefano Di Cola<\/strong>,\u00a0Sara Gailli<\/strong>,\u00a0Edoardo Giorgetti<\/strong>,\u00a0Matteo Lamberti\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0Alessio Proietti Colonna<\/strong>. Among this core group, Caramignoli and Gailli have also announced a negative COVID-19 test.<\/p>\n

Simona Quadarella is notably not competing in the International Swimming League right now<\/a> in Budapest as the league does not feature any races longer than 400 meters, which falls under Quadarella’s specialty as she won the 2019 World title in the 1500 and also fought\u00a0Katie Ledecky\u00a0<\/strong>for all she was worth<\/a> by winning silver in the 800.<\/p>\n

Quadarella is in line to make her Olympic debut<\/a> next summer in Tokyo as she will be one of the medal favorites in the inauguration of the women’s 1500 freestyle as she has been one of the top international swimmers in that event since winning Worlds bronze in 2017.<\/p>\n
