{"id":451234,"date":"2020-10-29T14:23:07","date_gmt":"2020-10-29T21:23:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=451234"},"modified":"2020-10-29T14:23:07","modified_gmt":"2020-10-29T21:23:07","slug":"aquatic-center-to-be-named-after-late-swim-coach-kerry-croswhite","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/aquatic-center-to-be-named-after-late-swim-coach-kerry-croswhite\/","title":{"rendered":"Aquatic Center to be Named after Late Swim Coach Kerry Croswhite"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Kerry Croswhite<\/strong>, a long-time swim coach in Arizona who died in July due to complications from COVID-19, is set to have the facility he once worked at named in his honor.<\/p>\n<p>The Chandler Unified School District is expected to approve the naming of its aquatic center in Croswhite\u2019s honor, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.azcentral.com\/story\/sports\/high-school\/2020\/10\/28\/chandler-high-name-aquatic-complex-after-kerry-croswhite\/6062735002\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">according to <\/a><em>The Arizona Republic.<\/em> Croswhite led the Chandler High team for the last 15 years. He was diagnosed with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/arizona-swim-coach-kerry-croswhite-battling-covid-19-infection\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">COVID-19 in late June<\/a> and battled the disease for three weeks <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/passages-kerry-croswhite-chandler-high-school-swim-coach-dies-after-covid-19-complications\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">before passing away<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Our family is deeply touched that the Chandler pool will be named after Kerry,&#8221; <strong>Laurie Croswhite<\/strong> told <em>The Republic.<\/em> &#8220;He had always dedicated his life to teaching and coaching. This is a perfect way to honor Kerry&#8217;s memory and carry on his legacy he established.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The idea for the Kerry Croswhite Aquatic Center was floated by Chandler athletic director <strong>Jim Culver,<\/strong> in recognition of what Croswhite gave to swimmer at the pool and away from it.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;He taught people how to be honest and learn from hard situations, but more importantly, find a bright side when life was getting too hard,&#8221; Culver said. &#8220;Kerry was always there for those who needed help and was a teacher and coach that truly wanted to help every single person he encountered.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.azcentral.com\/story\/sports\/high-school\/2020\/10\/28\/chandler-high-name-aquatic-complex-after-kerry-croswhite\/6062735002\/\"
