{"id":450991,"date":"2020-10-27T11:16:43","date_gmt":"2020-10-27T18:16:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=450991"},"modified":"2020-10-27T15:31:27","modified_gmt":"2020-10-27T22:31:27","slug":"melanie-margalis-goes-57-94-adds-american-record-in-100-im-to-isl-haul","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/melanie-margalis-goes-57-94-adds-american-record-in-100-im-to-isl-haul\/","title":{"rendered":"Melanie Margalis Goes 57.94, Adds American Record in 100 IM to ISL Haul"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Records keep falling for <strong>Melanie Margalis,<\/strong> the Cali Condors IMer adding the 100 individual medley American record to the pile Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>Margalis won the 100 IM in 57.94 seconds, just .22 ahead of the New York Breakers\u2019 <strong>Abbie Wood, <\/strong>in the fourth match of the International Swimming League season<strong>.<\/strong> The time undercuts the American record of 58.02 set by <strong>Katie Meili<\/strong> in Berlin on Aug. 31, 2016.<\/p>\n<p>Margalis&#8217;s 100 IM time puts her in a tie for second in the ISL this season with Tokyo Frog Kings&#8217; <strong>Runa Imai.<\/strong> <strong>Sarah Sjostrom<\/strong> holds the ISL record at 57.74. <strong>Katinka Hosszu<\/strong> owns the world record at 56.51, dating to 2017.<\/p>\n<p>Melanie Margalis already holds the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/american-swimming-records-short-course-meters\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">American short-course records<\/a> in the 200 and 400 IM, the former picked up in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/isl-day-one-recap-king-smoliga-margalis-break-american-records-as-condors-lead\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">her first ISL match of the season<\/a> (2:04.06). That also broke Hosszu\u2019s ISL record (2:04.16) from last year. The 28-year-old Margalis, an Olympic relay gold medalist from Rio, holds the top ISL time of the season in the 200 IM, the 400 free (3:58.43) and 400 IM, where she set the ISL record last year (the AR of 4:24.15). She\u2019s been 4:25.48 this year.<\/p>\n<p>In <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/isl-match-4-notes-condors-flex-their-depth-sakci-kromowidjojo-steal-day-2\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">ISL Match 4<\/a>, Margalis won the 100 IM and 200 IM (going 2:04.32 to again edge Wood).
