Anton Chupkov\u00a0<\/strong>and Ilya Borodin <\/strong>set national records in the 100m breaststroke and 200IM at the Russian Swimming Championships in Kazan.<\/p>\n

Chupkov lowered his own record to 58.83 while Borodin stopped the clock at 1:58.00 at the Aquatics Palace.<\/p>\n

The 2018 European bronze medallist set the previous Russian record of 58.94 at the World Cup – also in Kazan – last year but he cut 0.11 from that time at the Aquatics Palace in the capital city of Tatarstan.<\/p>\n

Ilya Khomenko<\/strong> and Alexander Palatov<\/strong> stopped the clock at 59.84 and 59.89 for the runners-up spots.<\/p>\n

Chupkov’s record comes weeks after he touched first at the Russian Swimming Cup<\/a> in 59.79 ahead of 2017 world bronze medallists Kirill Prigoda<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
Prigoda is in Budapest with London Roar<\/strong> at the ISL and not competing in Kazan while Chupkov had been linked with the Toronto Titans<\/strong> but did not appear on the Canadian team’s roster.<\/p>\n
Borodin – who was second over 400IM at the 2019 European Junior Championships – went ahead on the backstroke leg and extended his league relentlessly, coming home in 28.92 for victory by almost three seconds.<\/p>\n

Alexander<\/strong> Osipenko<\/strong> was second in 2:00.51.<\/p>\n
Malyutin Takes Victory After Final-50 Blast<\/h3>\n
Martin Malyutin<\/strong> came from third at halfway to win the 200 free in 1:46.10 by 0.06secs.<\/p>\n
Malyutin shared the bronze medal position with Duncan Scott<\/strong> at last year’s World Championships before the Briton made clear his distaste by refusing to share the podium with winner Sun Yang<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
On Monday he turned second at 150, 0.06 behind Mikhail Dovgalyuk<\/strong> and unleashed a final 50 of 26.94 to overhaul his rival for victory.<\/p>\n

Dovgalyuk was second in 1:46.16 with Alexander Shchegolev\u00a0<\/strong>– joint leader at halfway with Dovgalyuk – rounding out the podium in 1:46.57.<\/p>\n
Grigory Tarasevich<\/strong> won the 100 back in 53.80. The 2016 European silver medallist went out in 25.85 and came back in 27.95.<\/p>\n
Eugenia Chikunova\u00a0<\/strong>won the 50 breaststroke in 31.05 ahead of Maria Temnikova<\/strong> (31.66) and Elena Bogomolova<\/strong> (31.76).<\/p>\n
Daria Vaskina<\/strong> won the 100 back in 1:00.16 with Alexandra Kurilkina<\/strong> (1:01.34) and Elizaveta Chmykhova<\/strong> (1:01.36) – notable given both were born in 2005.<\/p>\n

Anastasia Markova<\/strong> won the women’s 200 fly in 2:10.87 and Yana Kurtseva<\/strong> took the 800 free in 8:45.38.<\/p>\n
Chikunova joined Andrei Minakov, Alexandra Bykova<\/strong> and Pavel Tatarenko<\/strong> as St Petersburg won the mixed medley relay in 3:48.39.<\/p>\n
