The originally scheduled March reveal was caused by the COVID-19 pandemic that delayed the Olympics by a year. It comes nine months ahead of the scheduled date for the Opening Ceremonies of the delayed Games on July 23, 2021.<\/p>\n<p>The swimming venue will seat 15,000 fans. Situated off Tokyo Bay, the price tag <a href=\"https:\/\/english.kyodonews.net\/news\/2020\/10\/1f520b225cb2-olympic-swimming-venue-unveiled-japan-star-ikee-among-1st-in-pool.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">checks in at a reported $520 million<\/a>, the second most expensive venue, behind only the $1.43 billion national stadium that will host the Opening and Closing Ceremonies. The five-level arena will host swimming, diving and artistic swimming events. It\u2019s one of six purpose-built venues for the games.<\/p>\n<p>The aquatic center is a big item on a budget that, at a price tag of $12.6 billion, is as the most expensive Olympics ever, per an academic study.<\/p>\n<p>Ikee formally baptized the pool, the latest step in the promising young star\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/rikako-ikee-being-alive-is-a-miracle-as-she-looks-to-inspire-following-leukemia-battle\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">inspiring battle back<\/a> from a leukemia diagnosis <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/rikako-ikee-one-year-on-leukemia-fight-was-big-turning-point-in-my-life\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">more than a year ago<\/a>. The 20-year-old has explicitly set her sights <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/rikako-ikee-discharged-from-hospital-after-leukemia-fight-eyeing-2024-olympic-games\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">on the 2024 Games<\/a>, though she returned <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/rikako-ikee-continues-strong-return-from-leukemia-surprised-herself-with-fast-50\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">to competing in August<\/a> and will ramp up her schedule in the latter part of this year.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;After seeing the pool, it finally hit me that next year, this is where the Olympics will be held,&#8221; Ikee said in a statement released by her management agency.<\/p>\n<p>The swimming venue is the final one to be officially introduced, which starts a much more unprecedented process of how <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/japan-prime-minister-suga-insists-rescheduled-tokyo-olympics-will-go-ahead-next-year\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">to make safe a major international event<\/a> during the era of an extremely contagious virus. The Tokyo organizing committee is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/tokyo-olympics-officials-tout-safety-at-covid-screening-demonstration\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">weighing strategies to make it happen<\/a>, from health screenings for athletes to how fans will fill venues.
