Texas had its first intrasquad meet last week with suits on, and they had their first real taste of action with other teams present, as meets with more than one team have been hard to come across.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/vmrw8k5h.tinifycdn.com\/results\/pdf\/2020-texas-first-chance-first-day-day-1-ncaa-college-2020-10-16.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Results<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The highlight of the night came from junior\u00a0<strong>Drew Kibler<\/strong>, who threw down a 4:08.26 in the 500 freestyle as he moved to fourth all-time with his swim. Last year, Kibler was a 4:11 and seeded sixth ahead of NCAAs before the meet was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. With this speed on display today, Kibler could have challenged\u00a0<strong>Kieran Smith\u00a0<\/strong>for all he was worth at NCAAs, as the latter blasted a 4:06 in the 500 to break the American record last season.<\/p>\n<p>Kibler moved up to fourth all-time, as three Longhorns now sit in the top five.<\/p>\n<p>Kibler won ahead of\u00a0<strong>Johnthomas Larson\u00a0<\/strong>(4:15.80) of the Longhorns, and\u00a0<strong>Mark Theall\u00a0<\/strong>(4:20.01) of Texas A&amp;M.<\/p>\n<p><strong>All-Time Rankings Men&#8217;s 500 Free<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>4:06.32, Kieran Smith, 2020<\/li>\n<li>4:07.25, Zane Grothe, 2017<\/li>\n<li>4:08.19, Townley Haas, 2019<\/li>\n<li><em>4:08.26, Drew Kibler, 2020<\/em><\/li>\n<li>4:08.42, Clark Smith, 2017<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Texas A&amp;M junior\u00a0<strong>Shaine Casas\u00a0<\/strong>blasted a 44.40 in the 100 backstroke, which is a new best time from his 44.48 last season. Casas improved on his 9th place ranking on the all-time list, as he is looking to be in good shape ahead of the new Olympic year in 2021. Foster now sits second all-time only behind\u00a0<strong>Chase Kalisz\u00a0<\/strong>(3:33.42). Sophomore\u00a0<strong>Jake Foster\u00a0<\/strong>finished in third with an impressive 3:43.30.<\/p>\n<p>This is a huge swim for Foster, as he has emerged as a potential spoiler for a number of events at next year&#8217;s Olympic Trials.<\/p>\n<p>Sophomore\u00a0<strong>Caspar Corbeau\u00a0<\/strong>won the 100 breaststroke with a lifetime best of 51.96, ahead of fellow sophomore from Texas A&amp;M\u00a0<strong>Andres Puente Bustamante\u00a0<\/strong>(52.55). Longhorn junior\u00a0<strong>Charlie Scheinfeld\u00a0<\/strong>(53.32) placed third in the race.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/25qn7tSr0sc\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Texas senior\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/sam-pomajevich-finding-solace-in-racing-during-covid-19\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Sam Pomajevich<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>won the 200 butterfly with a 1:42.93, in a tight race with <a href=\"https:\/\/texassports.com\/sports\/mens-swimming-and-diving\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Longhorn<\/a> underclassmen\u00a0<strong>Coby Carrozza\u00a0<\/strong>(1:43.37) and\u00a0<strong>Ethan Harder\u00a0<\/strong>(1:43.78).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/exqAe6VMne0\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Junior\u00a0<strong>Daniel Krueger\u00a0<\/strong>took the 50 freestyle victory with a 19.16, which was a best time for him after he was a 19.19 last season.
