The swimming programme at the 2022 Commonwealth Games<\/strong> in Birmingham, England, will run from 29 July to 3 August.<\/p>\n

The schedule for the multi-sports Games which will be held in the midlands city – the second biggest in England – was released on Friday.<\/p>\n

The Games, the largest sports event to be held in the UK since the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, will feature 19 sports, with eight para sports integrated into the programme, creating the biggest para sports offering in Commonwealth Games history.<\/p>\n

The pool programme, including para swimming, will begin on the first day of competition at the Sandwell Aquatics Centre<\/strong>, which is currently under construction in the Smethwick area of the city.<\/p>\n

The diving programme will then run from 4 to 8 August when the Games will conclude with the Closing Ceremony.<\/p>\n

It is set to be a congested year for swimmers with the World Championships that were scheduled to take place in Fukuoka, Japan, in 2021 now re-scheduled for May 2022.<\/p>\n

The Commonwealths will then follow with the European Championships running from 11-21 August at the Foro Italico, Rome,<\/strong> with the open water at Ostia<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
The Women’s European Football Championship<\/strong> is set to run through July while the World Athletics Championships<\/strong> are scheduled for 15-24 of that month.<\/p>\n
Nigel Huddleston<\/strong>, Minister for Sport, Tourism and Heritage, said:<\/p>\n

It’s great to see that for the first time ever at a Commonwealth Games, there will be two full weekends of sport offering more opportunities for everyone to experience Birmingham 2022.”<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
