{"id":448880,"date":"2020-10-08T19:28:10","date_gmt":"2020-10-09T02:28:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=448880"},"modified":"2020-10-08T19:28:10","modified_gmt":"2020-10-09T02:28:10","slug":"south-carolina-high-school-pulled-from-state-meet-for-positive-covid-19-test","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/south-carolina-high-school-pulled-from-state-meet-for-positive-covid-19-test\/","title":{"rendered":"South Carolina High School Pulled From State Meet For Positive COVID-19 Test"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"card collection-item \" data-type=\"text\">\n<div class=\"card-content card-article\">The Fort Dorchester High School swim team in South Carolina was slated to host the state championship meet this weekend, but a positive COVID-19 test on the team has taken that opportunity away.<\/p>\n<p>The South Carolina high school state meet will still be at the aquatic center across the street, but Fort Dorchester will not be competing after a member of the team tested positive on Monday, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.live5news.com\/2020\/10\/07\/fort-dorchester-swim-team-removed-state-meet-after-positive-covid-test\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Live 5 News<\/a> reported.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"card collection-item \" data-type=\"text\">\n<div class=\"card-content card-article\">\n<p>The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention maintains there is no evidence the coronavirus can spread through pools, but it can be spread out of the water in the same capacity as anywhere else, which means on the pool deck.<\/p>\n<div class=\"card collection-item \" data-type=\"text\">\n<div class=\"card-content card-article\">\n<p>The decision to pull the team was made by the Dorchester District Two medical staff in consultation with the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control, according to the report. A spokesperson for the district told Live 5 News they followed their contact tracing procedures.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>The difficult part for Fort Dorchester is that the entire team is not competing, despite only one athlete testing positive.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"card collection-item \" data-type=\"text\">\n<div class=\"card-content card-article\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"card collection-item \" data-type=\"text\">\n<div class=\"card-content card-article\">\n<p>\u201cWhen I first heard it, I fell on the floor sobbing.
