Suzuka Hasegawa<\/strong> served up a scorching 57.70 in the 100 fly on the third day of the Japan Student Swimming Championships in Tokyo.<\/p>\n

Yuya Tanaka<\/strong> unleashed a 51.76 in the men’s race ahead of a fast-finishing Kouta Akahane<\/strong> who stopped the clock at 51.83.<\/p>\n

Hasegawa has been on sizzling form of late, consistently posting world-class times over recent weeks.<\/p>\n

She set new PBs of 57.49 and 2:05.62 over 100 and 200 fly respectively at the Tokyo Special Swimming Tournament at the end of August.<\/p>\n

The 20-year-old became Japan’s second-fastest performer all-time in the former – eclipsed only by Rikako Ikee<\/strong>‘s 56.08 – and her time on Saturday consolidated that again ahead of Yuka Kato<\/strong>‘s 57.77 from 2012.<\/p>\n
Out in 26.87 – the only sub-27 of the field – and back in 30.93, Hasegawa cut 0.19 from the previous meet record as she completed a dominant fly double following Friday’s 2:07.82 over 200.<\/p>\n
Tanaka won 50m fly silver at the 2019 Universiade and came fifth over 100m.<\/p>\n
On Saturday he went out in 23.79 to turn 0.46 ahead but Akahane ate into that lead with a second 50 blast of 27.58 but fell 0.07 short.<\/p>\n
Rio Shirai<\/strong> dominated the women’s 200 free, splitting 27.44\/29.61\/30.56 and coming home in 30.55 to win in 1:58.16.<\/p>\n
Tanaka won the men’s event in 1:48.20.<\/p>\n
Runa Imai<\/strong> took the 200IM in 2:12.25 with Syuya Matsumoto<\/strong> winning the men’s in 1:58.94 thanks to a final 50 of 28.88 after turning 0.01 down at 150.<\/p>\n
