Talia Bates<\/strong> won the 50 freestyle and 100 fly at the University of Florida\u2019s season-opening Orange and Blue Meet<\/a>, her time in the 50 quicker than the NCAA B cut.<\/p>\n

Bates clocked in at 22.71 in the 50 free, just .05 under the B cut. She also won the 100 fly in 54.57, pacing the Orange squad\u2019s 150.5-108.5 victory. Bates was also part of two victorious relays, turning in a flat start 49.84 off the front of the 400 free relay, three tenths from an A cut.<\/p>\n

Vanessa Pearl<\/strong> won two events for the Blue squad, taking the 200 individual medley and 200 breast as well as a runner-up finish in the 100 breast. She finished behind freshman Cecilia Porter,<\/strong> who notched the other B cut time of the day at 1:01.69.<\/p>\n

Fellow freshmen Katie Mack<\/strong> (100 free) and Amanda Ray<\/strong> (200 fly) also won races.<\/p>\n

“It was so awesome to be able to race today in our Orange and Blue meet after a nearly seven-month layoff,\u201d coach Jeff Poppell<\/strong> said. \u201cI thought the women did a fantastic job competing against one another and we completed the entire 14-event dual meet format in just over an hour. Lastly, the meet served as a great first look at our freshmen, whom I feel will make a significant impact to our team this year.”<\/p>\n

Postgrad Sherridon Dressel<\/strong> took part as well. The new Cali Condor<\/a> won the 200 backstroke with a time of 1:58.94. She anchored a medley relay with a 22.72 split and split 51.30 off the end of the 400 free relay.<\/p>\n
