NEW COMMIT:\u00a0<\/strong>The University of Wisconsin has received their second early verbal commitment for the 2022-23 season from in-state standout and U.S. Open qualifier Abby Wanezek\u00a0<\/strong>of Elm Grove, Wis.<\/p>\n

She will arrive in Madison along with Jensen Beach, Fla. native\u00a0Blair Stoneburg<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>as a member of the Badgers’ Class of 2026.<\/p>\n

Her verbal commitment comes on the same day the Badgers opened a new era<\/a> by hosting their first official practice in their brand new facility, the Soderholm Family Aquatic Center<\/a>, that had been under construction for the past few years.<\/p>\n

She told\u00a0Swimming World:<\/em><\/p>\n

“I\u2019m so humbled and excited to announce my verbal commitment to swim and study at the University of Wisconsin!! I\u2019m so grateful for my family, friends, and coaches who have encouraged me along the way! Can\u2019t wait to be a Badger!!\ufe0f”<\/strong><\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Primarily a backstroker, Wanezek trains year-round with Elmbrook Swim Club and earned two bronze medals and a silver at the Wisconsin 13&O State Championships in March before COVID hit. She also recorded two best times at the Toyota U.S. Open in December.<\/p>\n

Last summer, she finaled in three events at Minneapolis Sectionals before going on to secure the runner-up spot in both the 50m free and 200m back at Wisconsin 13&O LCM Championships. At NCSAs in March 2019, Wanezek raced to 15th place in the 50 back.<\/p>\n
