Two-time Olympic silver medallist Duncan Scott<\/strong> went 1:41.94 over 200 free at short-course time trials at the University of Stirling – a time only he has bettered among British men.<\/p>\n

Elite swimmers in Scotland were allowed to return to the water in July after having to look on as their counterparts in England and Wales had already resumed training weeks earlier.<\/p>\n

Scott started his time trials on Friday morning in the 200 free in a time that was 1.02secs outside the British record of 1:40.92 he set in a morning swim at the European Short-Course Swimming Championships in Glasgow in December 2019.<\/a><\/p>\n

Only Scott has gone quicker in British waters with James Guy<\/strong> the next fastest in 1:42.22, the then British record he set in August 2016.<\/p>\n

The triple world champion returned in the afternoon to go 1:54.57 in the 200m IM.<\/p>\n

Scott has already accumulated two Olympic and five world medals as well as making a combined 13 trips to the podium at the Commonwealth Games and European Championships.<\/p>\n
The enforced break following the postponement of Tokyo 2020 allowed him to reflect on what he had already achieved while looking at how he can benefit from the extra year’s training going into the Games.<\/p>\n
In an interview with The Herald, Scott said:<\/p>\n
\u201cIt was a long break out of the pool, but a lot of good has come from it and especially mentally, it made me really want it and want to get back in the water.<\/p>\n
“But I feel like if that\u2019s how good I felt this year, why can\u2019t I be in even better shape next year?<\/p>\n
\u201cI could potentially have won medals this year, but with the Olympics now happening next year, I could win more.<\/p>\n
\u201cSo I\u2019m just thinking how can I continue my progress and how can I be in even better shape next year? Being only 23, another year of getting stronger and better can only benefit me.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
Stephen Milne<\/strong> went 1:46.60 in the morning 200 free before his afternoon effort of 1:45.51.<\/p>\n

Other results saw Katie<\/strong> Shanahan<\/strong>, the 16-year-old who won six medals at the 2019 European Youth Olympic Festival, went 2:11.88 in the 200IM.<\/p>\n
Aimee Willmott<\/strong> stopped the clock at 2:12.10 before going 4:37.11 in the 400IM in which she is Commonwealth champion.<\/p>\n
Kathleen Dawson<\/strong> went 57.29 in the 100 back while Cassie Wild<\/strong> hit 58.59 and Emma Russell<\/strong>, who was recently named on British Swimming’s Podium Potential programme, stopped the clock at 54.69 in the 100 free.<\/p>\n
