Photo Courtesy: ISL.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>And by the end of the day it had become clear that his fellow Roar team mates, including <strong>Cate Campbell<\/strong> and <strong>Bronte Campbell<\/strong> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/mckeon-family-survive-catastrophic-bushfires-and-appeal-to-all-australians-for-help\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Emma McKeon<\/strong><\/a> as well as the Australian-based US Condor connection \u2013 which included <strong>Ariarne Titmus<\/strong> and <strong>Mitch Larkin <\/strong>had all confirmed they were not prepared to risk travelling to Europe \u2013 with so much at stake \u2013 all pulling out.<\/p>\n<p>Others staying at home are ISL season one world record holder\u00a0<strong>Minna Atherton, Holly Barratt, Alex Graham, Matt Wilson and Elijah Winnington<\/strong> (all from the London Roar) and <strong>Jack Cartwright, Meg Harris<\/strong> and <strong>Clyde Lewis <\/strong>from the Cali Condors and <strong>Mollie O\u2019Callaghan<\/strong> and <strong>Abbey Harkin<\/strong> (NY Breakers) as well as coaches <strong>Peter Bishop<\/strong> and <strong>David Lush<\/strong> (Roar) and Boxall (Condors).<\/p>\n<p>It leaves both the Roar \u2013 finalists in the inaugural League last year and the emerging Condors both decimated.<\/p>\n<p>It is understood that Australia\u2019s triple Olympic backstroker <strong>Emily Seebohm<\/strong> from the 2019 Champions, Energy Standard team and Marion SA-based Gold Coast pair <strong>Leiston Pickett<\/strong> and <strong>Tristan Hollard<\/strong> (DC Tridents) are amongst a small Australian contingent who are still considering attending.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAll of the London Roar Australians are out including Olympic champion Chalmers who is injured, so he was always out no matter what,\u201d Woodhouse confirmed when <strong><em>Swimming World<\/em><\/strong> contacted him in London.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are all pretty devastated, it\u2019s just the nature of the circumstances; there is no blame being laid here.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s the uncertainties of the travel itself, the health and safety issues and getting back into the country because it is so hard to get flights and potentially having to stay away with quarantines and the final may not be until December, there are so many unknowns.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFrom a London Roar perspective we totally support the swimmers decisions and we are as devastated as they are; all the athletes have said how much they enjoyed the ISL last year and wanted it to be back with the Roar and part of it again.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSome saying it\u2019s the best thing they have ever done in the sport.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was each individual\u2019s choice; they had to make up their own minds because there is a lot at stake here.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou had to take into serious consideration Swimming Australia\u2019s travel and medical protocols; everyone is looking at the travel scenarios, they would have to quarantine for two weeks and in an Olympic year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo one has taken it lightly, they are all pretty gutted at missing out; it\u2019s really hard; there is no right or wrong here, which is why we have to support their decisions<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u201cThey lose financially and from competition but there are risks, some like Cate Campbell are asthmatics and they have to weigh up career ending health risks \u2013 it could mean career over and long term damage.\u201d<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Boxall, who has eight members of his St Peters Western squad signed up said they all really wanted to go.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are in the middle of a pandemic so it makes it very, very difficult. Australia is in a strict lock down compared to other countries who also have a lot more cases,\u201d said Boxall, as he walked off the pool deck tonight to host a dinner with his team.<\/p>\n<div difficult.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut we all still wanted to go; we still wanted to find a way and my eight were all committed; we tried as long and as hard as we could and I tried to give as much respect to the team\u2019s general manager (US Olympic gold medallist) <strong>Jason Lezak<\/strong> who is just the best, the way he approaches and communicates.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cJason gave us right until the last moment but we had to make the hard call.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Boxall said he fully understood and respected Swimming Australia\u2019s advice as well.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u201cI completely understand where our governing body is coming from \u2013 we\u2019ve got the Olympics coming up everything, all our funding, all our focus for the past four years has all been about the Olympics,\u201d said Boxall.<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>\u201cSo I completely understand and respect where Swimming Australia stand \u2013 we all do \u2013 the coaches and the swimmers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe know what the bigger picture is and we know that the ISL will be around next year and they know we have also shown great commitment to the teams and the ISL.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cImagine coming home and being in lock down let alone getting sick \u2013 there are a lot of unknowns \u2013 the health risks are very high \u2013 what happens to your lungs?<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAthletes just can\u2019t take those risks..not with the Olympics next year and any long terms affects.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA shame but it\u2019s the right
