Iowa sophomore Millie Sansome<\/strong>, who starred in her one year at Iowa, announced Friday that she is transferring to the University of Georgia.<\/p>\n

The decision comes in light of the Hawkeyes\u2019 decision to drop the program after the season<\/a>. Sansome announced the decision on her Instagram account:<\/p>\n

The last few weeks have been a rollercoaster of emotions. Nobody saw this coming and to say I was shocked and devastated would be an understatement. When I think of it now, I just feel to incredibly grateful and honoured that I got to spend a year with such an amazing team. I have made so many unforgettable memories over the past year and have made friends for life. It\u2019s safe to say I\u2019ve loved every second of being a Hawkeye and they will always have a special place in my heart. I will never forget my time here but I came to swim, so I have to move on.<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Sansome will transfer in for next semester.<\/p>\n

Millie Sansome (whose full name is Emilia Sansome) was on the path to being a program-changing swimmer. In her one season with the Hawkeyes, she set school records in the 100 back (53.21) and 200 back (1:54.86) as well as part of the 400 medley and 800 freestyle relays. She logged top-10 times in program history in the 400 individual medley (third), 1,000 free (sixth), 1,650 free (sixth) and 500 free (seventh).<\/p>\n

Sansome attained NCAA B cuts in both backstroke events. She scored points at the Big Ten Championships in the 200 back<\/a> (eighth place) and in three relays. She added 11 dual-meet victories.<\/p>\n

The native of Marlow, England<\/a>, has competed in the European Junior Open Water Championships and in the World School Games.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
