\nAs more and more college swimming and diving programs are being cut due to the ongoing budget issues from COVID-19, CSCAA Executive Director Greg Earhart is trying to do something about it. The CSCAA, along with members of the Intercollegiate Coach Association Coalition, are proposing a new financial model with not how much money is being spent, but where the money is being spent.<\/p>\n

010<\/span> LIFE TIME COMPLETES VIRTUAL CLUB NATIONAL MEET WITH 1,700 SWIMMERS<\/strong><\/span>

\nWith many pools across the country closed during the COVID-19 pandemic, Life Time, a national chain of athletic resorts and health clubs, put together a virtual national meet that ran for 10 days in August. More than 1,700 swimmers took part at 64 different Life Time clubs throughout 27 states with more than 6,500 published results.<\/p>\n

011<\/span> MISSOURI VALLEY CONFERENCE TO HOLD SWIMMING & DIVING CHAMPIONSHIPS IN MID-APRIL, DATES NOT FINALIZED<\/strong><\/span>

022<\/span> WHY HAVE WOMEN BEATEN MEN IN MARATHON SWIMMING?<\/strong><\/span>

\nSwimmers have biological differences that affect their performance according to their sex. Women have lower hemoglobin levels, oxygen supply and do not develop as much muscular power. Therefore, in sprint events, women are quite far from reaching men. However, ultra-distance swimming is a different story.<\/p>\n

Each of Spitz\u2019s titles was won in world-record time, and the accomplishment became the sport\u2019s measuring stick for greatness for more than three decades. 029<\/span> UNIVERSITY OF NORTH CAROLINA FULL-TIME STAFF FACING FURLOUGHS OR SALARY CUTS<\/strong><\/span>

\nThe University of North Carolina is doing everything it can to avoid cutting any of its sports programs. However, beginning Oct. 1, all full-time members in the athletic department at UNC will either be furloughed for 15 days (those making less than $100,000 annually) or will see a reduction in salary of 10% (those between $100,000 and $200,000) or 20% ($200,000 or more). These reductions will remain in effect until June 30, 2021.<\/p>\n

030<\/span> WILLIAM & MARY TO CUT SWIMMING & DIVING AFTER 2020-21 SEASON<\/strong><\/span>

\nWilliam & Mary has decided to cut six of its sports after the 2020-21 academic year. This marks the sixth NCAA Division I school to lose its swimming and diving team this off-season, joining East Carolina, Connecticut, Boise State, Dartmouth and Iowa in having their programs cut to ease the financial fallout from the COVID-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n

032<\/span> PAC-12 MAKES AGREEMENT FOR RAPID COVID-19 TESTING; COMPETITION COULD RETURN SOONER<\/strong><\/span>

\nDue to an agreement with the Quidel Corporation, the Pac-12 Conference, which has postponed fall and winter sports through Dec. 31, could return to action sooner than anticipated. The agreement will allow for daily testing for COVID-19, enabling the conference\u2019s schools to perform rapid tests and contact tracing.<\/p>\n
