{"id":445667,"date":"2020-09-03T09:35:43","date_gmt":"2020-09-03T16:35:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=445667"},"modified":"2020-09-03T09:35:43","modified_gmt":"2020-09-03T16:35:43","slug":"andreas-vazaios-named-national-college-athlete-society-scholar-athlete-of-the-year","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/andreas-vazaios-named-national-college-athlete-society-scholar-athlete-of-the-year\/","title":{"rendered":"Andreas Vazaios Named National College Athlete Society Scholar Athlete of the Year"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>NC State swimming alumnus <strong>Andreas Vazaios<\/strong> added to his list of accomplishments as he was named the 2019-20 National College Athlete Society Scholar Athlete of the Year, as announced by Chi Alpha Sigma on Thursday morning.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chialphasigma.org\/scholar-athletes-2020\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">award<\/a> recognizes one male and one female student-athlete who demonstrated academic and athletic achievement, as well as service and leadership both on campus and in the community.<\/p>\n<div class=\"sidearm-story-image-align-center\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/gopack.com\/common\/controls\/image_handler.aspx?thumb_id=14&amp;image_path=\/\/vmrw8k5h.tinifycdn.com\/images\/2020\/9\/3\/Andreas_Vazaios_71.jpg\" alt=\"Andreas Vazaios Chi Sigma Alpha\" width=\"640\" height=\"417\" \/><\/div>\n<p>\u2022 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/category\/college\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">More college news<\/a><\/p>\n<p>While at NC State, Andreas Vazaios put together a decorated career that was highlighted by four national titles \u2013 two individual golds and two relay golds. He repeated as national champion in the 200-yard butterfly at the 2019 NCAA Championships to cap off his NC State career. The 13-time All-American took home gold in the event in record-setting fashion as he lowered his own ACC record. Vazaios also won six ACC titles as a member of the Pack and was the 2018 ACC Men&#8217;s Swimmer of the Year.<\/p>\n<p>Academically, Andreas Vazaios was selected as the 2019 ACC Men&#8217;s Scholar-Athlete of the Year and was a multi-time Academic All-American honoree while at NC State.<\/p>\n<p>In May, he was awarded with an NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship and is currently pursuing a master&#8217;s degree in Sports and Exercise Psychology at Loughborough University in the United Kingdom.
