The furloughs will not affect senior executives.<\/p>\n<p>Starting Sept. 21 through the end of January 2021, all national office staff will be subjected to a mandatory three-week furlough, NCAA President\u00a0<strong>Mark<\/strong> <strong>Emmert<\/strong> wrote. Some staff will be furloughed up to eight weeks, depending on position and \u201cseasonal timing of their duties.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The NCAA took a massive financial hit when the organization made the difficult decision to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/ncaa-cancels-winter-championships-including-swimming-and-diving\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">cancel the Division I Men&#8217;s Basketball Tournament<\/a> last season amid the coronavirus pandemic, as well as the entirety of the 2020 spring sports season. The basketball tournament accounts for almost all of the NCAA\u2019s annual revenue, which reached $1.1 billion last year, according to the AP.<\/p>\n<p>Many colleges will not be participating in fall sports this semester, although that decision was not made by the NCAA but rather by the individual conferences across the three divisions. Among the Power 5 Division I schools, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/pac-12-conference-to-postpone-sports-including-swimming-through-jan-1-2021\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Pac-12<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/big-ten-conference-officially-postpones-fall-sports-spring-a-possibility\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Big Ten<\/a> will not be participating in fall sports as the winter sports teams, including swimming and diving in some places, start a cautious return to practice beginning this month. Because of this, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/division-i-grants-extra-year-of-eligibility-for-fall-athletes-will-try-for-spring-ncaa-championships\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">NCAA has agreed to award all the Division I fall sports athletes<\/a> an extra year of eligibility if they had their season taken away from them out of their control.
