NEW COMMITS:\u00a0<\/strong>Northern Michigan University has added two new verbal commitments for the 2021-22 season from Grand Rapids, Mich. native Becca Burrows\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0Cecilia Hagewood<\/strong> of Chula Vista, Calif.<\/p>\n

Both talented swimmers will suit up for the Wildcats as a member of the class of 2025 along with Heidi Billings<\/strong><\/a>,\u00a0Emma Clifford<\/strong><\/a>, \u00a0Zoe DeKievit<\/strong><\/a>,\u00a0Ella Houwers<\/strong><\/a>, and\u00a0Faith Sill<\/strong>.<\/a><\/p>\n

She told\u00a0Swimming World:<\/em><\/p>\n

“I am SO SO excited to announce my verbal commitment to swim & study at Northern Michigan University!! Thank you to my coaches, family, friends, & teammates for always being so supportive of me through this journey! Can\u2019t wait to be a Wildcat :)”<\/strong><\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Primarily a freestyler and butterflyer, Burrows does her club swimming with East Grand Rapids Aquatics. Last summer, she raced five events at Cleveland Sectionals where she recorded a best time in the 50m fly.<\/p>\n

Her best times include:<\/p>\n

  • 50 free – 24.37<\/li>\n
  • 100 free – 53.10<\/li>\n
  • 200 free – 1:53.04<\/li>\n
  • 100 fly – 58.34<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    Also competing for Grand Rapids Christian High School, Burrows is a six-time Michigan DIII State Championship finalist. She placed eighth in the 100 free and ninth in the 200 free as a junior while taking third in the 200 free and seventh in the 100 fly during her sophomore season.<\/p>\n

    Regarding her commitment, she said:<\/p>\n

    “I am so excited to have committed to NMU, it is such an amazing team with an amazing coaching staff, the campus was beautiful as was the scenery. I\u2019d like to give a special thanks to my supporting friends and family as well as coaches Tyler and Paul on SDSA. I\u2019d also like to give a huge thanks Coach Krissy and Tom from South Bay Aquatics, I could not have made it as far as I have without them. I can\u2019t wait to be a Wildcat!”<\/strong><\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

    Hagewood, who swims year-round with San Diego Seaport Aquatics, raced to seventh in the 100 breast at the San Diego Imperial Classic in February before going on to earn a best time at Carlsbad Sectionals. She was the runner-up in the 100m breast at the San Diego Junior Olympics last summer and raced four events at Mount Hood Futures.<\/p>\n

    Her best times include:<\/p>\n

    • 50 free – 24.15<\/li>\n
    • 100 free – 53.07<\/li>\n
    • 50 breast – 30.37<\/li>\n
    • 100 breast – 1:04.32<\/li>\n
    • 200 breast – 2:24.11<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

      A current senior at Edison High School, Hagewood raced the 100 breast at the CIF State Championships in 2019. She is also a four-time CIF San Diego DI Section Championship finalist, taking third in the 100 breast and fifth in the 50 free during her sophomore season.<\/p>\n
