But once she leapt off her block, the Rio 2016 Olympian looked surprisingly strong for someone who had not competed for over 19 months. Ikee took just one breath during the race and touched the wall first, 0.44 faster than runner-up\u00a0<strong>Onoda Aoi<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>After climbing out of the pool, Ikee took a bow and shed tears of mixed emotions.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMore than my time, I didn\u2019t think I\u2019d finish first. Minakov, who had committed to swim at\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/world-championships-silver-medalist-andrei-minakov-sends-massive-verbal-commitment-to-stanford\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Stanford University<\/a>\u00a0for this fall, confirmed to\u00a0<em>Swimming World\u00a0<\/em>that he will be redshirting for the upcoming season.<\/p>\n<div class=\"article__block\" data-type=\"text\">\n<blockquote>\n<div class=\"article__text\">\u201cWe came to a consensus that it\u2019s probably the best decision for me,\u201d Andrei Minakov said. \u201cI am remotely enrolled and will do remote learning this year. Additionally, I am training here in Russia and preparing for the Olympics at home. I will come to campus in the fall of 2021.\u201d<\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n<p>He is currently training with the Russian national team at Lake Krugloye with coach\u00a0<strong>Sergei Chepik<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMinakov is training at Krugly, he will not go to the USA now, they gave him the go-ahead for this. While he will train in Russia.
