{"id":444543,"date":"2020-08-20T18:35:41","date_gmt":"2020-08-21T01:35:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=444543"},"modified":"2020-08-20T18:35:41","modified_gmt":"2020-08-21T01:35:41","slug":"u-s-national-junior-teamer-matt-fenlon-verbally-commits-to-stanford","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/u-s-national-junior-teamer-matt-fenlon-verbally-commits-to-stanford\/","title":{"rendered":"U.S. National Junior Teamer Matt Fenlon Verbally Commits to Stanford"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>NEW COMMIT:\u00a0<\/strong>U.S. National Junior Teamer\u00a0<strong>Matt Fenlon\u00a0<\/strong>of Chappaqua, New York has announced his verbal commitment to Stanford University beginning in the fall of 2021.<\/p>\n<p>He will join\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/florida-3a-100-back-state-champion-hayden-kwan-verbally-commits-to-stanford\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Hayden Kwan<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/idaho-state-record-holder-gabe-machado-verbally-commits-to-stanford-for-2021\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Gabe Machado\u00a0<\/strong><\/a>on The Farm as a member of the Cardinal\u2019s class of 2025.<\/p>\n<p>An extremely versatile swimmer, Fenlon swims year-round with Badger Swim Club for coach <strong>John Collins<\/strong> and is a member of the U.S. National Junior Team in the 200m fly after placing 17th in that event at Phillips 66 Nationals in August 2019. After that meet, he then went on to earn bronze in his signature event at Junior Nationals.<\/p>\n<p>His best times include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>200 free \u2013 1:37.38<\/li>\n<li>500 free \u2013 4:21.41<\/li>\n<li>100 back \u2013 49.64<\/li>\n<li>200 back \u2013 1:45.71<\/li>\n<li>100 fly \u2013 47.26<\/li>\n<li>200 fly \u2013 1:42.53<\/li>\n<li>200 IM \u2013 1:47.74<\/li>\n<li>400 IM \u2013 3:56.35<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>He has also seen great success in short course. He won the 200 fly at Juniors East in December where he also took fourth in the 100 fly and ninth in the 200 free. Fenlon won two events at Metropolitan Seniors in February and earned gold in the 200 fly, 200 IM, and 400 IM at TYR Junior Nationals in 2019.<\/p>\n<p>A current senior at Horace Greeley High School, Fenlon competed at the New York Federation Championships as a freshman where he won the 100 back and took third in the 200 free. He has also earned both NISCA and USA Swimming Scholastic All-American honors.<\/p>\n<p>Stanford has a huge butterfly class coming in this fall as freshman, and Fenlon holds a faster 200 fly time than all of them.
