She is the second Stanford incoming freshman to make that decision,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/regan-smith-will-defer-enrollment-to-stanford-for-olympic-redshirt-year\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">following world champion<\/a>\u00a0<strong>Regan Smith<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAfter much thought and consideration I decided to defer enrollment for the 2020-2021 academic year,\u201d Nordmann told Swimming World. \u201cGiven the coronavirus pandemic and the uncertainty of the upcoming season, I felt like this was the best decision. The Big Ten Conference will continue to evaluate a number of options regarding these sports, including the possibility of competition in the spring. Decisions regarding winter \u2014 including swimming \u2014 and spring sports will also continue to be evaluated.<\/p>\n<p>The conference stated it relied on the medical advice and counsel of the Big Ten Task Force for Emerging Infectious Diseases and the Big Ten Sports Medicine Committee.<\/p>\n<p>The Pac-12 Conference will cancel sports for the fall semester, through Jan. 1, 2021, due to the coronavirus pandemic. The decision would sideline many of the nation\u2019s top NCAA swimming programs and hamper the Olympic training efforts of numerous hopefuls from a variety of countries. The conference is hoping to play the fall sports again in the spring.<\/p>\n<p>The decision follows a similar decision made by the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/big-ten-conference-officially-postpones-fall-sports-spring-a-possibility\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Big Ten Conference<\/a>\u00a0earlier today, which cancelled its football season with the potential of playing in the spring.
