She is the second Stanford incoming freshman to make that decision, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/regan-smith-will-defer-enrollment-to-stanford-for-olympic-redshirt-year\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">following world champion<\/a> <strong>Regan Smith<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;After much thought and consideration I decided to defer enrollment for the 2020-2021 academic year,&#8221; Nordmann told Swimming World. &#8220;Given the coronavirus pandemic and the uncertainty of the upcoming season, I felt like this was the best decision. Hopefully this will allow me a full four years of training and competing for Stanford.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The Cardinal have won three consecutive NCAA championships.<\/p>\n<p>Nordmann will begin her college career during the 2021-22 season, which also gives her full focus on the 2021 Olympic trials.<\/p>\n<p>She is a member of the U.S. national team after finishing 2019 with the fourth-fastest time in the 200-meter butterfly. She also swims the sprint freestyle events.<\/p>\n<p>Nordmann trains at the Magnolia Aquatic Club where her father is the coach. Her sister <a href=\"https:\/\/gostanford.com\/sports\/womens-swimming-and-diving\/roster\/lucie-nordmann\/16516\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Lucie<\/a> also swims for Stanford and is set to begin her junior season in Palo Alto.<\/p>\n<p>Lillie Nordmann broke the Texas state record in the 200 free to win the state championship as a senior at Conroe the Woodlands in February.<\/p>\n<p>At the state meet, Nordmann dropped nearly six seconds from her seed time to finish in 1:43.62, crushing the Class 6A and overall state record of 1:44.64 set by <strong>Samantha Tucker\u00a0<\/strong>of Austin Westlake in 2009.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Lillie Nordmann has announced she will defer her enrollment to Stanford for a year.
