The time would have broken her own Hong Kong national record (1:54.98) and the Asian record set by Japan&#8217;s <strong>Rikako Ikee<\/strong> (1:54.85) in 2018.<\/p>\n<p>Siobhan Haughey set her national record at the 2019 World Championships to finish just off of the medal podium, taking fourth. Her goal is to become the first Hong Kong swimmer to medal at the Olympics.<\/p>\n<p>This time would have earned the silver medal at worlds.<\/p>\n<p>Swim meets in 2020 have been limited, but it is the fastest time in the event put up this year. Katie Ledecky of the U.S. touched the wall in 1:54.59 during a TYR Pro Swim Series stop in Des Moines, in March. Haughey participated in that meet and was second (1:56.48) behind Ledecky.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was pretty surprised, especially with no long course training and not a lot of rest. That makes me feel like I am headed in the right direction,\u201d Siobhan Haughey told <em>Swimming World<\/em>. \u201cPacing, especially in the 200 is something I am working on. How comfortable I should be with going out fast. I feel like this year, we are asking more questions about technique and detail. We have been tweaking a lot of things to figure out what is right for me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Haughey, who has already qualified for the Tokyo Olympics in 2021, has now <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/siobhan-haughey-focused-on-tokyo-after-rise-to-worlds-elite\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">shown what she is capable of<\/a> with more long-course training and some rest.<\/p>\n<p>She already looks poised for a stellar 2021.<\/p>\n<p>Siobhan Haughey&#8217;s former Michigan teammate <strong>Jamie Yeung<\/strong> participated in the time trial, going 1:10.34 in the 100 breaststroke and 2:20.37 in the 200 IM.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Siobhan Haughey is making the most of her return to Hong Kong.
