WEST LAFAYETTE, Indiana, Nov. 16. GEORGIA TECH senior All-American Shilo Ayalon set his second pool record in as many days today, as the Georgia Tech men's and women's swimming and diving teams swept Cincinnati and dropped a pair to nationally-ranked Purdue in a two-day meet at the Boilermaker Aquatic Center.<\/p>\n
The men (2-3, 0-1 ACC) defeated the Bearcats, 245-96, while the women (3-2, 0-1 ACC) were victorious over Cincinnati, 240-107. <\/p>\n
The No. 18 Purdue men topped the Jackets, 214.5-138.5, and the 19th-ranked Boilermaker women defeated Tech, 280-73.<\/p>\n
Ayalon took first in the 400-yard individual medley in a pool record time of 3:57.90. He also won the 500 free Saturday, recording a season-best mark of 4:30.11. Ayalon also posted a Doris Z. Holloway Pool record in the 1000 free Friday.<\/p>\n
Much like Friday's action, the Jackets posted season-best performances in nearly every swimming event. <\/p>\n
The men got solid swims in the 100 free from senior Josh Hersko (second) and freshman Brian Huff (third). Hersko recorded a season-best mark of 46.60, while Huff went 46.78. <\/p>\n
The Jackets' senior breaststroke tandem of Tomonori Tsuji and Robbie Foster, placed third and fourth, respectively, in the 200 breast. Tsuji went a season-best 2:03.50.<\/p>\n
Other impressive showings on the men's side came from senior James Salazar, who was second in the 200 back (1:50.13), freshman Teemu Kettunen, who finished third in the 100 fly (50.52) and junior Eduardo Oliver, who finished third in the 500 free (4:33.78). All marks were season bests.<\/p>\n
The women were strong in the 200 back, where sophomore Anna Saum placed second and freshman Ashley Kracke took third. Freshman Elizabeth Foster finished second in the 100 fly with a season-best time of 57.53, while sophomore Moeko Wallis was the runner-up in the 100 free (52.54).<\/p>\n
The Yellow Jacket women were also second in both the 200 free relay (1:35.89) and the 400 free relay (3:32.62), posting season-best performances in both events.<\/p>\n
Tech's top diving performances Saturday came from junior Paul McCarty, who was second on the men's one-meter board, and freshman Laurissa Prystaj, who took third in the women's three-meter event.<\/p>\n
