\nFollowing the decision made by the YMCA of Central Florida, the YMCA of Central Ohio also announced the cancellation of all competitive swimming for the 2020-21 season at their metropolitan YMCAs. In addition to not being able to compete, swimmers will not be allowed to practice.<\/p>\n

015 BRITISH SWIMMING LAUNCHES LGBT+ SUPPORT NETWORK CALLED PRIDE IN WATER<\/span> <\/strong>

016<\/span> THE 1980 U.S. OLYMPIC TRIALS REPRESENTED A ROAD TO NOWHERE<\/strong><\/span>

\nPresident Jimmy Carter had announced that the United States would boycott the 1980 Games in Moscow in response to the Soviet Union\u2019s invasion of Afghanistan in late 1979. The United States, however, still held its Olympic Trials after the conclusion of the swimming events in Moscow\u2014an unusual circumstance for athletes who were robbed of the opportunity to compete on their sport\u2019s biggest stage.<\/p>\n

018<\/span> FOR GLENN MILLS, A MISSED OLYMPIC OPPORTUNITY IN 1980, BUT A CAREER OF GIVING BACK<\/strong><\/span>

\nGlenn Mills is one of 15 swimmers who made the U.S. Olympic team in 1980 who, because of the U.S.-led boycott of the Moscow Games, never swam in an Olympics.
