What is unclear is whether Wolf was referencing sports at all levels, or if was he discussing high school sports, which fall under the jurisdiction of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.piaa.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association<\/a> (PIAA).<\/p>\n<p>States throughout the country have made various decisions regarding high school sports in recent weeks, ranging from staying with the original starting schedule to canceling seasons. The in-between decision has been to push back the fall season by several weeks, or to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/virginia-high-school-sports-going-with-condensed-seasons\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">move it to between the winter and spring seasons<\/a>.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Release from <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/GovernorTomWolf?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@GovernorTomWolf<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/Fz04nZaVIN\">pic.twitter.com\/Fz04nZaVIN<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Tom Reisenweber (@ETNreisenweber) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ETNreisenweber\/status\/1291456659739615232?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">August 6, 2020<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>The PIAA stated that it would hold a Zoom meeting later in the day on Thursday and would respond to Governor Wolf\u2019s statement. Because Wolf said January 1 was a recommendation, it is uncertain if the PIAA can act on its own and conduct seasons prior to that date. Until now, the PIAA has decided to move ahead with fall sports, but some individual leagues around Pennsylvania have taken it upon themselves to postpone the start of seasons by several weeks.<\/p>\n<p>In Pennsylvania, which ranks as one of the top swimming states in the country, swimming is a winter sport, with competition typically starting in early December.
