COLLEGE STATION, Texas, Nov. 15. THE newly-anointed No. 16 Texas A&M men's swimming and diving team defeated Louisiana-Monroe 173-117 in a dual meet held at the Student Rec Center Natatorium on Friday night.<\/p>\n
The Aggies won 11 of 16 events including both relays to even their mark at 2-2 on the season.<\/p>\n
Senior Zach Widener and freshman Andrew Sullivant led the maroon-and-white charge by capturing a pair of victories. <\/p>\n
Widener won both of his specialty events, the 100 and 200-yard breaststroke going away. The Grapevine High School product swam a seasonal best time of 57.52 in the 100 breast which currently ranks him 28th in the nation. Widener was even more impressive in the 200 breast, winning by more than eight seconds in a seasonal best time of 2:04.04 ranking him 26th collegiately.<\/p>\n
In only his third collegiate dual meet, Sullivant won both the 200 and 500 freestyles, an impressive feat for a sprint freestyle swimmer. The Cypress Creek product edged out fellow freshman Mark Solomon 1:43.05 to 1:43.61 in the 200 free while beating another Aggie freshman, Scott Newmann, 4:43.69 to 4:45.21 in the 500 free. <\/p>\n
Sophomore Joel Travnicek had arguably the most single impressive performance of the night in winning the 1,000-yard freestyle. The Columbus, Neb. native shattered his old personal best of 9:43.71 by swimming 9:33.61 for the win.<\/p>\n
Junior Adam Morgan and freshman Christian Picard each earned a diving win on the night. Morgan won the one-meter springboard with a score of 296.93 while Picard won the three-meter by tallying a total of 305.55.<\/p>\n
Redshirt freshman Jonathan Moeller won his first collegiate race, the 100 freestyle, in 4.25 while sophomore Dan Blanchard won the 50 freestyle in 21.36<\/p>\n
The Aggies will be back in action at the Pittsburgh Invitational next Friday through Sunday.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
